“No one has shown you a map have they?” Fain murmured.
I jumped realising he was right behind me. “No.”
“Maybe they were worried you’d use it to escape.” He said.
My eyes widened and he let out a laugh.
“That was mean.” I stated.
“Maybe.”
I rolled my eyes before frowning as I noticed the silver trace of a scar on his face that I’d never noticed before. I could feel the prickles of his stubble as I ran my finger along it.
“We had to fight to get Prince Hal out.” He said.
“How bad was it?” I asked.
“It could have been a lot worse. We lost twenty soldiers, more were wounded, but the Crown Prince is safe.”
“I saw you.” I said. “When you arrived back. You had the Crown Prince in your lap. He was fast asleep in your arms.”
“How did you see that? Where were you to see that?”
I winced. “Nela and I went into the city.”
“What?”
“It wasn’t a big deal.”
He raised his eyebrows.
“It wasn’t.” I stated more forcefully. “We’ve been before. And I needed a break. I needed to get out of these damned walls.”
He let out a frustrated sigh. “I don’t like it.” He murmured putting his hands on my hips, pulling me into him. “But I also see how cruel it is to keep you locked up all the time. You have needs to.”
I smirked. “Are you giving me permission?” I teased.
He laughed. “Does it matter? I think you’ve proven you’ll do what you want Alice in spite of what I say.”
I grinned. “Yes I will.” I replied.
He leaned down, kissing me so devastatingly slow. I moaned into his mouth but just as his hands began to reach around and squeeze my arse we both heard the knock at the door.
He huffed.
“You were the one who was hungry.” I murmured.
He walked back out while I stayed where I was, not hiding exactly, at least that’s what I was telling myself. When I heard the door shut I went to go find him.
My jaw dropped at all the food now spread out on the table.
“I figured I’d get a little bit of everything.” He said. “I don’t know what you like to eat.”
It was true. We didn’t really know all that much about each other.
I pulled out a chair, sat down and picked up a piece of cheese from what looked like a platter.
“So you like cheese.” He said.
