“What is it?” I asked.
He shook his head clearly refusing to divulge whatever it was.
“You need to see this.” The healer said pointing to Alice’s skin.
As we watched the blackened flesh began to heal. The burns began to fade. As if she’d never been put to fire. As if she’d never been set alight in the first place.
We stared open mouthed as slowly her skin returned to pink. As all her wounds healed.
“Is that normal?” I asked.
“Not even for Fae.” Jelric replied.
I looked at him as he ran his hands over his face looking exhausted.
“What do you know?” I asked.
Jelric looked at me. “The girl deserves to know before anyone else does.”
“Know what?” I half snapped.
But Jelric shook his head. “Get your wounds healed.” He said.
I frowned before looking down at the burns to my own hands. I’d barely even felt them, barely acknowledged them until now.
Jelric turned to leave and I grabbed him, pulling him back.
“Is she is in more danger now?” I asked.
“Yes.” Jelric replied before tugging his robe out of my hands and walking out.
Ikept my eyes closed even though I was awake. I was in my bed. In my rooms. Somehow I already knew that.
And I wasn’t alone.
I took in a breath. Moved my hands under the covers, anticipating bandages. Anticipating pain. But I felt none.
As I opened my eyes I met his. He was sat right beside me. There was only us two in the room.
“Hey.” He said quietly.
“Why are you here?” I asked.
He winced. “Alice.”
“Don’t you dare.” I said pushing myself up. Forcing myself to move.
“Please just listen to me.”
“Why, so you can lie to me more? Trick me more?”
“There was no trick.”
“That’s a lie.” I cried. “You lie.”
“Alice, I didn’t do it. I didn’t…”
“Get the hell away from me.”
