I sighed. So she was back to guard duty was she? I didn’t know if it made it better or worse knowing that she knew everything that had happened between me and Fain.

I followed her out the door, staring at my boots as we walked.

“If you want to talk about it.” She began.

“Thanks but I don’t.” I said quietly.

She paused. “Look I know you think I’m biased but…”

“I don’t want to talk about it.” I said. “About any of it.”

She nodded. “It’s your decision.” She said.

I tried not to think about the fact that it was one of the few I could actually make for myself.

When I walked into the High King’s room I expected the entire High Council to be there. I don’t know if it was a relief or not to see it was just the three of them.

I didn’t look at them. Not at their faces. I gave a bow then stared at the ground.

I guess in a way I was broken now.

Theyhad broken me.

“Alice.” Even Uther sounded wary as he spoke my name. As if he was capable of feeling guilt. “Please sit.”

I glanced at the chair that had been placed for me. And chose not to take it. Instead I clenched my fists and shook my head slightly. I wasn’t going to make this easy for them. For any of them.

Uther frowned but did no more. Instead he turned to look at his Magi. “Jelric, tell us what is it you’ve discovered.”

Jelric looked at me, his gaze lingering for a moment before he started to talk. “Alice’s magic is not like a normal Fae’s. Your magic is different, it’s deeper, more complex. The power you drew to destroy the spectral was not from the same source as a normal Fae.”

“We know this.” Uther said.

“With respect, your Highness, this is important.” He said “Your magic is deeper, much deeper because it is older. Most Fae are created by an idiosyncrasy in nature. There is no discernible difference between them and non Fae but you are different. Your blood is different.”

“What do you mean by my blood?” I asked.

“I think you aren’t just Fae, I think you are from the Alarin bloodline.” Jelric stated.

“What does that mean?” Uther asked before I could.

“It means you are royalty. Fae royalty. Your bloodline is the original Fae line.” Jelric replied.

I screwed my face up in confusion. “But how can that be? I’m not from this world, I’m not…”

“Your family from your world carried the bloodline.” Jelric said.

“My family are dead.” I half snapped.

“That does not negate what you are.” Jelric replied.

“What does it mean for her powers?” Uther asked.

I scowled before I could stop myself. Of course that was all he was concerned about.

“It means she is stronger, much stronger than any other Fae. But it also means she can pass the Fae line on.” Jelric stated.

“What?” I said.
