“Oh wow.” Mira said half gasping.
I raised an eyebrow at her and at them. “So you have women soldiers here then?” I asked.
“Yes, Prince Fain introduced it a few years ago.” Nela said.
I raised an eyebrow at that.
“You seem surprised.” Indi mused with a slight smile. “Do they not have women soldiers in your world?”
“No they do, but this place feels more different that’s all, besides I wouldn’t have pegged Prince Fain as someone to push for women on the battlefield.”
“He’s not as bad as you think he is.” Mira said.
“No, he’s worse.” I muttered.
This place was making me crazy, all of it, the walls, the clothes, the way everyone seemed to adore damn Prince Fain.
I slumped back into a chair and sighed loudly.
“Is there anything I can get you?” Mira asked.
“Huh?” I replied.
“You look a little depressed.” Mira said.
“You’d be depressed if you were locked in a room with two guards.” I stated. “No offense.” I added speaking to Nela and Indi.
“None taken.” Nela said with a slight smirk.
“There’s nothing I can get you to cheer you up? Not even cake?” Mira said.
“No I’m not hungry.” I said. “Unless.” I sat up looking round at them. “You couldn’t get me a guitar could you, or even a ukulele?” I asked.
And then saw their blank faces.
“Of course. You probably have no idea what a guitar is.” I muttered rolling my eyes.
“Tell us what is, maybe we have something similar.” Nela said.
“I doubt it.” I said miserably but described it as best I could anyway.
“Oh you mean a stringlet.” Mira said. “I can absolutely get you one.”
“Really?” I said feeling myself actually smiling.
“Sure. I mean I might have to rob one of the court musicians but it’s not hard.”
“When can you get it?” I asked.
“You’re that desperate?” Nela asked giving me a look.
“Not desperate just bored. And it sounds weird but I find it calming, relaxing even.” I shrugged.
“Then why didn’t you say.” Mira said and she jumped up, went to the door and spoke to the guard who looked confused but nodded.
“Perhaps we can go for a walk while we wait?” Mira asked. But what I noted was that it wasn’t me she was addressing. It was Nela and Indi.
I shook my head slightly.Already Fain had tightened the cage around me, just as I knew he would.
