“Of course Alice.” He replied. “But for a price.”

“What price?” I asked already feeling like I wasn’t going to like the reply.

He glanced back making sure Indi and Nela weren’t close.

“Let’s just say you have something I want, and if you agree to give me it then I’ll make sure you’re returned safe and sound to your little world before anyone even realises you’re gone from this one.”

“What do I have?” I didn’t have anything. What he was saying made no sense.

He smirked staring down at me as he came to standstill. His fingers brushed my cheek as I froze. “Even for a Fae you’re very beautiful Alice.”

“Don’t touch me.” I said jerking my face away.

He laughed. “Don’t be a fool girl. You want to go home you have to make sacrifices too.”

“What sacrifices?”

He stared at my face then down as if he could see through the fabric of my dress, as if he was leering at my very body beneath. “You’ll enjoy it Alice, I’ll make sure of that.”

“Get lost you creep.” I snapped stepping back.

He hissed annoyed but I was already running away, running from him, sprinting down the corridor and back to my room. I didn’t look to see if Nela and Indi were following behind though I knew they were.

* * *

I paced in the room.Mira was gone on some errand or other and Nela and Indi seemed preoccupied as if Rillon’s sudden appearance had caught their attention for all the wrong reasons.

I wasn’t going to do what he asked, I wasn’t going to give him anything. But that didn’t make me feel any less vulnerable.

He was a Prince.

The High King’s own brother.

I didn’t know much about this world but I knew enough to know that if he wanted to hurt me, if he wanted to do anything to me, I’d be hard pushed to stop him.

I couldn’t stop thinking about Ghosh, about what he’d said, that fucking a Fae was meant to be good luck. I scowled disgusted at the thought. Was that Rillon’s belief too? Was that what he was after?

I had to get out of here. The thought hit me like a ton of bricks.

I couldn’t just stand around like a sitting duck waiting for Rillon to make his next move.

I glanced back at Indi and Nela. They weren’t even looking at me. They were deep in conversation with their backs to me.

I got up slowly, creeping out of the room. I didn’t even know where I was going, where I was headed, I just knew that the longer I trusted these people, the longer I stayed obedient the more danger I was in.

I opened the main door. Two guards where there, ready and waiting. Except their focus clearly wasn’t on me. They were so ready for an attack that would come down the corridor they didn’t anticipate one from behind. I smashed the first over the head. He groaned as he fell and I’ll admit I felt a pang of guilt for hurting him.

The second was quick to respond. Moving to grab me and I fought back, my only advantage being I knew he couldn’t kill me. That I was worth too much to the High King for him to take the risk.

As soon as he was down, I ran. I knew he wasn’t hurt. Not even enough to keep him from chasing me but enough to buy me a half minute lead.

I followed corridor after corridor, blindly turning, hoping that I might find some sort of exit only the whole castle felt like a maze.

The sound of soldiers following increased. I knew my time was almost up. I ran down a new corridor.

A different one. Only it was a dead end. No way out. I stopped, gulping when I realised I was trapped.

I ran to a window. The drop wasn’t even that far. I’d spent enough time hiding in trees at the school to know I could do it.
