“You would.” Uther muttered.
“No, she’s been dragged from her world, from her home, and you’re all just treating her like meat.”
“No we’re not. We’ve given her food, lodgings, we’ve taken good care of her.” I stated.
“You’re treating her like she’s your prisoner.” Cait said.
“She isn’t locked up in the dungeons.” I stated.
“How considerate of you both.” Cait replied.
“Enough.” Uther said quietly shooting her a look and she sighed folding her arms but fell silent anyway.
“You should know Rillon’s been sniffing around again.” I stated.
“What?” Uther snapped.
“I don’t know any details. I just know he cornered her.”
Uther growled. “If he does anything.”
“We need to make sure he doesn’t get the opportunity to.”
“What would he do?” Cait asked.
“You don’t know my brother.” Uther stated. “My mother indulged him, spoiled him, he grew up believing he was entitled to everything simply because he’s a Prince.”
“But you don’t behave like that.” Cait said.
“No. I was lucky to see through it, to have our father teach me better.” Uther said.
“The girl will be fine. I’ve got guards watching her.” I stated.
“Good.” Uther said. “I’ve been looking through these reports.” He added leaning over to grab them from the sideboard. “I think we should increase troops along the Paraz Peninsula.”
I frowned, weighing it up. “I think that’s feasible. We may want to look at increasing recruitment from the villages.”
“Fine.” Uther said.
“Urgh.” Cait moaned. She always hated when we talked shop even though it was a necessary evil.
“Are we boring you my dear?” Uther asked pulling her into his lap.
“You know you are.” She stated.
He laughed. “You’re here to look pretty Cait, to entertain me, to keep my mind from serious things remember.”
“So why are you discussing serious things in my earshot?” She teased.
“I’ll leave you to it.” I said already seeing where it was headed.
“You don’t have to.” Cait replied.
“Yes he does.” Uther said running his eyes over her.
“You are so…” She said and he smirked before catching her mouth in a kiss.
“And so are you.” He said as I shook my head and walked out of the room.
