I tried to shove him off but his weight held me down. I could feel his hands moving, undoing his breeches as the enormity of what he was doing, what he was attempting really hit me.
My panic swelled. My blood pounded in my ears.
I pulled for my magic again. Praying that it would answer.
Praying that it would come.
But there was nothing.
I screamed again. His hands were on me, up the inside of my skirt, caressing my skin, as if this weren’t a thing of violence, as if this were an act of love instead.
I could feel his erection hard against me and the horror of it made me gag against the fabric in my mouth.
“I bet you taste as delicious as you look.” He muttered as he shoved his fingers roughly inside me.
I cried out, kicking harder, trying to throw him off.
“I’m going to enjoy every minute of this. The more you fight the more I’ll enjoy it.” Rillon stated as his other hand closed around my throat tight enough to restrict my airway.
I kicked out. I jerked but as my lungs emptied I gave up fighting, slumping into the dirt.
“Get off her.” Fain yelled as he yanked Rillon away.
I didn’t look. I didn’t open my eyes. I just let the darkness take me.
Let the shame take me too as Rillon was dragged away.
Iwoke gasping. As if his hands were still around me. As if his foul touch was still on me.
“Easy.” A voice I didn’t recognise murmured. Close. Too close to me.
I blinked rapidly, taking in the room, my room.
I was on the couch, laid out.
Nela was there. Indi too. And Prince Fain of all people, stood, arms crossed, leaning by the empty hearth.
“You’ve got a few bruises but nothing permanent.”
I looked at the stranger. A woman I knew for certain I’d never met before.
“She’s a healer.” Indi explained.
I screwed my face up. What the hell did that mean?
As I got to my feet I could feel my body trembling. “What happened?” I asked. Though I don’t know why.
“You don’t remember?” Nela replied.
I gulped looking across the room, meeting his gaze without the intention too. I remembered. I remembered every horrific moment.
I turned away, my face flushing with shame. Was it worse that everyone knew? Worse that they were here to witness this? That Prince Fain had been there?
“What happened to you? Why weren’t you there?” I half whispered.
Nela winced. Indi hung her head. I noticed then the scrapes. The signs that they too had been in a fight.
“We tried.” Nela said. “He had help. The whole thing was planned.”
