“No man would have done what you did today.” High King Uther said through gritted teeth.
“You would have.” Rillon said with a slight laugh. “Look at her, you honestly expect us to believe you wouldn’t have had her given the chance?”
Uther narrowed his eyes deliberately keeping them away from me. “Let’s move on.” He stated.
“As you wish your Highness.” The man with the bell in front of him said. “High Prince Rillon you have given your explanation of events. Do you still wish to claim you’re not guilty?”
“I’m not.” Rillon said.
“But you admit being with the Fae girl and to use your term ‘having a fumble’?”
“I do. As I said any man would have…”
“How do you account for your not guilty stance when you openly admit to touching and damaging the High King’s property?”
“I didn’t damage her. She’s not damaged, just look at her. Everything I did to her she wanted me to do. She was like a bitch on heat.”
Fain shook his head in disgust.
Everyone was looking at me again. I looked away. Stared at the floor. Only too aware of my split lip, and bruised cheekbone that the healer hadn’t fixed that everyone seemed to be conveniently ignoring.
“We should hear the Fae girl’s version.” Jelric said to Uther who nodded.
“Yes. Girl come here.” Uther ordered.
“Alice.” Jelric said kindly gesturing to me.
I looked at them both and stood up. My legs were still shaking, even as I tried to hide it, I could feel it as I approached the table.
“You are the Fae girl correct?” The man with the bell asked.
“My name is Alice.” I replied.
“Just answer the questions we ask.” He said giving me a cold stare. “Tell us in your words what happened today.”
I took a deep breath to steady myself. To calm myself too. I didn’t want my voice to betray me, to show how shaken I still was. “I finished my training with Jelric and went through the gardens on my way back to my rooms. A guard approached me who gave me a note from the High Queen. She said she wanted to meet me. When I went to where the note said she wasn’t there but he was.”
The High King hissed. “Where is that note?” He asked.
I gulped, feeling the rage in his voice hit me like a cannonball. “He took it from me.” I said glancing at Rillon who merely laughed.
“That’s some ploy you’ve come up with to cover yourself.” Rillon said leaning forward towards me.
I shifted back, even though he was too far to reach me, I didn’t want to even breathe the same air as him.
“You’ve had your say. Now it’s the girl’s turn.” Jelric said. “The same goes for you, if you can’t hold your tongue you’ll be gagged.”
Rillon glared back at Jelric but said nothing.
“Was a note found on the Prince?” Someone asked.
“No.” Another replied.
Rillon grinned like a Cheshire cat. Whatever the hell had happened to that note I knew it wouldn’t be found.
“Go on girl.” Uther said.
What more did they want me to say? Closing my eyes I shook my head slightly before I started to speak again. “He grabbed me, he hit me and he…” I felt my eyes start to well with tears but I forced them back.
