I wasn’t going to cry.

I wasn’t going to show any of them any weakness.

I opened my eyes and stared directly at the High King. “He tried to force himself on me. If Prince Fain hadn’t had been there and pulled him off he would have…” I fell silent staring at the floor.

“You wanted it.” Rillon said. “You told me as much.”

“Why would I have wanted anything from you?” I snapped.

“You said you wanted to show your power, to feel it.” His eyes gleamed as he spoke.

I frowned more. What was he even getting at? Show what power? What the hell?

“Get him a gag.” The High King ordered. “I’ve had enough of his interruptions.”

“Wait, if you will your Highness.” Jelric said. “What do you mean by feel her power?” He asked facing Rillon who blanched and sat back crossing his arms.

“That’s not what I said.”

“That’s exactly what you said.” Jelric stated.

Rillon glared at him but refused to answer.

“You wanted to use her didn’t you? To get her to share her power? To try to become half-Fae?” Jelric said.

“I wanted no such thing.” Rillon snapped.

“Why else would you use that term?” Jelric asked.

“I didn’t use it.”

“Yes you did.” Jelric said. “We all heard it. You can pretend all you want but we heard what you said and we’re not so easily fooled.”

“Jelric, explain what you mean.” The man with the bell said. “Not all of our magic lore is as succinct as yours.”

Jelric narrowed his eyes and looked to the High King before speaking. “It is a complex part of magic and one that no one understands fully.”

“And yet Prince Rillon knows it.” The balding man pointed out.

“A question for another time my Lord.” Jelric replied before continuing. “The crux of it is that a Fae can share power but only in very certain circumstances.”

“And those circumstances being?” The High King asked leaning forward. Clearly eager to learn of this new secret.

“One being that the Fae passes it on when being intimate with a non-Fae.” Jelric said while intentionally not looking at me as he spoke.

I flushed redder with shame anyway. Wrapped my arms around myself as if they could make me invisible in this moment. As if I could hide away from all their god awful gazes.

“What?” The High King said.

“It can only happen in very certain circumstances though.” Jelric repeated.

“And what are those?” The man with the bell asked cutting across him.

“That she is a virgin.” Rillon said.

It felt like the words echoed around the room. Taunted me.

My whole body reacted to it. How I didn’t puke right there in front of them all I don’t know.
