Page 102 of Downfall

Only right now, I feel more trapped than ever.

It feels like someone is twisting the screws, that they know exactly what I have planned and are doing everything they can to trip me up.

Only I can’t let them.

Not this time.

I have to get free.

I have to do it, because it’s not just me who depends upon it. Not just my future that’s at stake.

Before I can overthink it I’m up, packing my bags, chucking them into my car, putting Bella into the car too and then I’m speeding off.

This is reckless. Really reckless.

And yet it feels like if I don’t do this, if I don’t take action now it’ll be too late.

So screw the deadline. Screw the millions that I’m due to inherit because it all means nothing if I’m still a prisoner. If I don’t get away from this place.

I pull up to the park. Bella is curled up half asleep on a blanket. It’s too hot to leave her in the car for long and I make sure to keep a window open enough to help ensure she’ll be okay.

I put my hands in my pockets, feeling the heavy metal of the gun. If this is to work, I have to be quick, I have to come out of nowhere. A blitz attack. I have to strike hard and then get the hell out before anyone is able to locate me.

I cross the park quickly. I can hear the screams of children. The laughter too. It feels like everything is disjointed. Everything is off.

My heart is thumping so loudly now I can barely focus. My adrenaline is making me want to puke.

I finger the trigger. The safety is on but I’ll be sure to take it off as I strike. I’m not going to give any opportunity for this to fail. If I have to shoot my way out of this when I will. I’m not going to just let them win this time.

Ahead I can see them. The three of them. The usual two guards. I take a deep breath stealing myself.

This is it.

This moment here.

If I can do this, if I can pull this off I’ll be free. We’ll be free.

“Rose.”

I freeze, not daring to even look around.

“Rose.” Ty repeats my name again.

I gulp as my heart sinks. As I contemplate the consequences of shooting him and then continuing on.

“Rose.” He snarls it this time.

And with that sound I know it’s gone.

My moment.

My entire plan is ruined.

“What is it?” I ask.

“You’re wanted.” Ty says jerking his head to the waiting car.

I don’t look. I keep my eyes fixed on the three figures still so far from me. If I’d been five minutes earlier, if I’d gotten through a few more lights I would have made it.
