I grab the picnic basket, and we head to her car, of course. She hands me the keys and I drive us to the park. I tote the basket in one hand and hold hers with the other as we walk through the park. When we finally found a nice, quite place to sit down, she lays down the blanket that she insisted on carrying.

We sit down, and I take out the glasses and bottle of wine while she takes out some potato salad, macaroni salad, strawberries, blueberries, and turkey sandwiches. To go on the sandwiches she had brought lettuce, tomatoes, mustard and mayonnaise.

We relaxed and just enjoyed watching the people with their kids and walking their dogs. I got caught up listening to her laugh and watching her smile. She is incredible. We have so much in common and I think I am really starting to really like her.

Before we get up and start to walk back, we discuss my upcoming drop and her meeting with Johnnie B on Monday. She will make the drop with me, but in the background. I will not attend her meeting with Johnnie B and that is because of how high up he is in the organization. I wasn’t invited, and it would be too suspicious if I just showed up there.

Once back at her apartment she invites me in to watch a movie. Two movies later and I wake up on her couch with her head on my shoulder. It feels great having her tucked under my arm with her head on my chest.

I rub her hair back out of her face. She looks so peaceful and beautiful. I kiss the top of her head. She stirs and wakes up.

“Sorry,” I said. “I didn’t mean to wake you. It is late. I better get going.” I didn’t want to leave, but I knew that we needed to keep the lines clear, at least while undercover. After that, it is a different story.

“Oh,” she said as she set up and looked at her watch. “I am sorry for falling asleep on you!”

“That was not a problem at all! I just woke up myself!” I replied.

“I meant literally falling asleep on you shoulder!” she said.

“I did too! It was really no problem at all!” I said as I stood up.

She stood up with me and walked me to the door. When I reached the door, I turned around and cupped her face with my hands. I leaned down and kissed her gently and passionately. Then I stepped away, opened the door and walked out. Neither of us saying a word.

CHAPTEREIGHT

Amelia

I close the door behind Brandon, and I lean up against it in shock. Not just shock from the intimate kiss or the intimate way I was sleeping on him, but also the way I was starting to feel for him. He is the sweetest man I think I have ever met. Which is saying a lot since I read his file. The man was Special Forces. It is hard to believe after reading his file that he is such a gentleman.

I go to bed, and he is all I can think about as I drift off to sleep.

When I woke up, I went down and make some coffee and eggs. I sat down in front of the TV and cut on the news still thinking about Brandon.

I have to get myself together and get focused on the job.

I am meeting Johnnie B at his club at 1400. I have got to get myself mentally prepared to make him believe that I still a gunner runner and that I really spent time in prison when we busted Anthony’s organization.

At noon, my phone rang, and it was Terry from Seals and Bounty. He had information from Wolf that they have been able to link the Russian they are after to selling the guns to the Torello organization. It was confirmed now and bringing down the both would bring down that gun selling ring in the United States. He couldn’t give me more information than that of course because it was classified, but that was all I needed to know.

I called Brandon.

“Hey Amelia,” he said as he answered the phone.

“Hey Brandon. I got a call from Terry this morning. He heard from Wolf. His team got confirmation that the Russian they are after is supplying the Torello organization with guns.”

“Well, I think you and I both knew that it was him. The pieces fit, but it is good that the Seals confirmed it,” he said. “Are you ready to meet with Johnnie B?”

“Yes, I agree. We all knew. I am. I got myself mentally ready. I will call you back after the meeting, unless you want to come over later and I will cook us dinner and we can discuss it?” I said, asking myself why I added that dinner part. But it was too late, I couldn’t take it back now.

“Good and yes, I would love to come have a home cooked meal. What time should I be there?” he asked.

“How is seven?” I asked.

“Seven is good and I will bring the wine,” he said. “Amelia on a really serious note, watch your six.”

“I will, thanks. I will see you this evening,” I said, and we hung up the phone.

I got up and got ready to head to the club. I took a long look in the mirror, said the name Stacey a few times. It helps me get into character. I couldn’t make any mistakes.
