She chuckled again, walking over to a monitor. “Maybe we need a consult with Neuro.”
Oh God, it was too late for me. I was already hooked up to machines. They were going to probe me or something. I’d seen it on a documentary once about the real Area 51. There was no getting out now.
“If I didn’t see you dressed like that, I would have called the police,” the woman snorted. “Then again, maybe I should still.”
“Hey, I’m injured, too.”
At the sound of the second voice, I slowly turned my head and found the intruder sitting on a second bed, holding an icepack to his crotch. Except the intruder was my husband.
“What…”
“Hey, wifey,” he grinned.
“Did I miss something?” I asked, my voice nothing more than a rasp. “Why are you dressed like an alien?”
“I was going to clean the litter box.”
“In a spacesuit?” I shouted, then cringed at the pounding in my head.
Kristy patted my arm, drawing my attention. “Best to keep the noise level down. That’s a pretty good bump on the head. The doctor will be in shortly.”
She glanced at Bradley, then back to me, and laughed.
“I don’t understand why this is so funny,” I grumbled.
“Because you attacked me.”
“You deserved it,” I snapped. “Who walks around the house dressed like an alien?”
He glanced down at his suit and frowned. “This is what you think aliens look like?”
“That’s beside the point. You scared the crap out of me. I thought you were there to murder me!”
“In a hazmat suit?”
“That is not a hazmat suit! There are no markings. In fact, you just look like a spaceman.”
“And you thought a spaceman was going to harm you?” he smirked, then winced when he shifted positions slightly.
“Oh God,” I groaned. “I attacked you.”
“Yes, but you also managed to knock yourself out, so don’t feel too bad.”
I tried to sit up, failing miserably. Thankfully, my knight in…space armor was there to help me.
“Easy, now. You have quite a nice bump on your head.”
“Why were you dressed like that?” I grumbled as he helped me settle back against the pillows. He took extra care to make sure I was comfortable, and even pulled the blanket up to cover me when I shivered.
“I was going to clean the litter box.” He narrowed his eyes at me. “I saw you, you know.”
“Saw me what?” I feigned innocence.
“You know what. I told you not to clean out the litter box until your hand was better.”
I rolled my eyes at his overprotective nature. “It’s just a burn.”
“And I don’t want it getting infected. I told you I would take care of it.”
