“Tonight?” Emily frowns. “As in, tonight after work?”
I nod.
“Well…” she hesitates.
“I need to tell you about my call with Diego,” I say, “but I also need to keep you way the hell off in the distance and not in any way even slightly connected to your brother’s case. And this just got alotmore important.”
Yeah, it’s true that I don’t want to talk about this in the office. And yeah, it’s true that this information is probably critical for her research into Robert Ferry. And those are the reasons that I just asked her out, not because she’s absolutely beautiful and I haven’t been able to completely get her out of my head since we met.
And maybe if I keep on reminding myself of that, I’ll convince myself that I’m doing this for the right reasons.
