Chapter 32
A week after the shower, Landon and Faryn were married at the Lakeside Country Club in Metairie. Makena’s friend was a member there and she pulled some strings to help them out. The small ceremony was poolside and they had a small dinner like reception right after. Only immediate family and a few friends were in attendance and that was good enough for them. They had two to three weeks before the babies came, and both parents and big brothers were ready. Makena and Ella offered to stay with them for a few days after the babies arrived, but Landon declined their help. He didn’t want to start out depending on anyone. He and Faryn wanted to do it all themselves. They decided that Faryn would stay home for a few months before going back to work. Landon still wanted her to be her own boss and she was really entertaining the idea.
“Congrats Faryn,” Robin said as she walked over to her.
Landon was trying to find her some ginger ale because she was having terrible heart burn. They had a few more hours to go before the reception ended and Faryn was ready to go.
“Thanks,” Faryn said with a smile.
“I’ve met your brothers and sister, but where are your parents?” Robin asked as she took a seat right next to her.
“My mom passed away when I was sixteen,” Faryn replied. She didn’t bother saying anything about her father, especially since she didn’t know who he was.
“Aww, I’m sorry to hear that,” Robin said solemnly.
“Sorry to hear about your recent loss as well,” Faryn replied.
“Thank you, sweetie. And listen, I know it’s gonna be rough on you with two newborn babies in the house. I know that Landon works and I’m sure you’ll be going back to work eventually. If you ever need a babysitter for any reason, just give me a call,” Robin offered.
“Nah, we’re good on that,” Landon replied as he walked up on the end of their conversation. He handed Faryn her drink while occupying the seat on the other side of her.
“It was just an offer Landon,” Robin said.
“And I just declined it. Don’t try to come at my wife on no friendly shit trying to snake your way back in. You already got three grandkids who don’t even know you,” Landon argued.
“I’m trying to get to know them, but you and Makena won’t let me,” Robin replied, right as Makena walked up.
“It took your man dying for you to even acknowledge them,” Landon pointed out.
“Look, the only reason you’re even here is because of our grandmother. Don’t be trying to ruin my brother’s day with that fake ass love. I have no problem escorting you out, if that’s going to be a problem. You didn’t want kids when you were with Leroy, remember? Your wish was granted a long time ago and you still don’t have any kids now,” Makena said angrily.
“I apologize for not being the mother that y’all needed me to be,” Robin said as she tried to force out some tears.
“Girl, please! You can’t even make yourself cry with that bullshit that you’re spitting. We’re adults boo. The fuck we need with a mother now,” Makena snapped.
“I know, but-” Robin said before her daughter cut her off.
“But nothing. Right now, you have one of two choices. You can have a seat and enjoy the free food and drinks that my brother is paying for, or you can find the nearest exit and get the fuck out. Now, what’s it going to be?” Makena asked calmly as she looked at her waiting for an answer.
“It was nice talking to you, Faryn,” Robin said as she got up and reclaimed her seat right next to Ella and Ava.
“I know that we just got married, but I’m about to lay down the law right quick,” Landon said while looking at Faryn.
“What did I do?” Faryn questioned.
“You didn’t do anything, but a friendship between you and her ain’t happening. I can already see that she’s trying to use you to get back in and I can’t have that. We don’t need her to babysit or nothing else. I’ll hire a stranger before I open my doors to her. Hell, as far as I’m concerned, she is a stranger,” Landon ranted.
“Don’t fuss at her, Landon. She didn’t know,” Makena said, coming to Faryn’s defense.
“I’m not fussing at you, baby, but I know how my mama is. She’s selfish as fuck. Anything that she does is done to benefit her and her only. We’re good and let that be your answer every time she offers her assistance,” Landon said as he grabbed her hand and kissed it.
“Okay.” Faryn shrugged uncaringly.
She really didn’t know Robin, but she would respect her husband’s wishes. He told her all about how she did him and Makena, and she didn’t want a relationship with her anyway. Ella was more than enough mother and grandmother for them all.
“Aye Landon, who is that chick with the red dress on?” Roman came over and asked.
Chad had already met somebody who he was entertaining, and Roman had his eyes on a new bedmate as well.
