“No Ro. Don’t even try it,” Faryn replied.
“I work with her,” Landon said when he looked in the direction that he was pointing in.
“Is she married?” Roman asked.
“Has that ever stopped you before?” Landon laughed.
“Damn bruh, that’s cold,” Roman said, laughing with him.
“Nah man, she ain’t married,” Landon replied.
“Cool,” Roman said as he walked off and walked right up to her.
“That poor girl,” Faryn said, shaking her head.
“Her snitching ass. I hope he do her dirty. Bitch always at work reporting shit,” Landon replied.
“Why did you invite her then?” Faryn asked.
“I didn’t. We’re cool with some of the same people, so she must have come with somebody else. She tried to get with me when I got divorced and I turned her down. She’s had it out for me ever since then,” Landon chuckled.
“That’s messed up, but she still doesn’t deserve a man like Roman,” Faryn said, laughing.
“Fuck her,” Landon spoke up.
“I wonder what made that bitch Ava show up,” Makena said as they looked over at their auntie sitting there looking bored.
She and Ava had just passed words and were about to pass licks at Ella’s house the day before. She was always saying some slick shit out of her mouth and Makena was sick of her. It took Aiden and Raheem to hold her back from tagging her auntie’s ass. She had gotten her last pass from Makena and that was a promise.
“You know how grandma is. She’s always putting a guilt trip on somebody. It didn’t matter to me one way or the other.” Landon shrugged.
“I’m happy she left her punk ass husband at home,” Makena replied.
“She could have stayed at home right with that nigga. I’m sick of her ass too,” Landon acknowledged.
“Look at Lance following that lil girl around,” Makena laughed while changing the subject.
“Where?” Faryn asked as she looked around the semi-crowded room.
“Calm down Faryn. He’s gonna have a girlfriend eventually,” Landon chuckled.
“I doubt it,” Faryn said with a roll of her eyes.
She spotted Lance smiling hard, as he followed a pretty little girl all around the room. She was giggling as she looked behind her to make sure he was still following her.
“Her lil hot ass,” Faryn said as she stood to her feet.
“Girl, sit your ass down. You better not go over there messing with them kids,” Landon fussed.
“I’m not going by them. I’m going to the bathroom,” Faryn said as she wobbled away.
She was counting down the minutes until she could be reunited with her bed again. She was happy to see everybody having fun, but she was ready to go. Akira and Clarence stayed on the dance floor the entire time they were there. Faryn didn’t even recall seeing them eat anything. It didn’t matter if the song was fast or slow, the two of them had to dance to it. Akira had an old soul and had been that way ever since Faryn could remember. It was no surprise that she preferred older men. Robin called herself trying to talk to Clarence, but he had nothing to say to his ex-wife. She was all about her family now that the man who she abandoned them for was no longer here. She’d scarred her ex-husband and kids and they weren’t as forgiving as she hoped they would be.
Faryn was happy that all the stalls weren’t occupied when she went into the bathroom. She was the only one who was in there, at least for a few seconds. As soon as she closed and locked the door to the stall that she was in, someone else walked in behind her.
“Girl yeah, I’m tired as hell. Kylie is with your mama and my husband was at home. I just called him to come pick me up. He should be pulling up in a minute. I could have been relaxing with my man tonight. My nephew decided to marry a hoe and I had to get out of my bed for this bullshit,” Ava said loudly.
She was on the phone with her sister-in-law when she purposely followed Faryn into the bathroom. She wanted her to hear what she had to say and she was unapologetic about her feelings. In her eyes, Faryn was a hoe who lucked up on a good man.
