“Ava-” Kane started before she raised her hand to stop him.

“Save your time and energy. I don’t want to hear shit that you have to say. I’m so done Kane. Shit was already bad, and you just had to go and make it worse. My people had you right,” Ava said as she turned to walk away.

“Baby please. Just let me explain,” Kane begged.

“Explain it to the judge when I divorce your lying ass!” Ava yelled.

“Please don’t do this Ava. I’m sorry baby, but I can explain,” Kane replied as he pulled her over into a quieter area of the room.

“Explain how I just witnessed my husband coming out of a private room with a half-naked dancer. Explain how you’ve been lying saying that you’re going to work and you no longer have a job. I’ve been so busy lying to other people about my marriage that I’m starting to believe the shit myself,” Ava said as tears fell from her eyes.

“I didn’t want to resign from my job, but I didn’t feel safe being there anymore. Your crazy ass brother came there and threatened to kill me,” Kane said, exaggerating the truth.

“That’s bullshit Kane. If that was true, you should have said something a long time ago. I can’t do this anymore,” Ava cried as she tried to walk away.

As much as she hated to admit it, she owed her family, including Faryn, an apology for her behavior. They were right, and she felt like a damn fool. Kane wasn’t going to change, and she was sure that there was more that she didn’t know about. She was quickly knocked off that high horse that she had climbed on so many years ago.

“Baby…” Kane said, before there was a loud crash and a commotion coming from the front of the building.

The music stopped, and another commotion was heard coming from the back of the building. Ava’s heart dropped when she saw a gang of police officers rush in from two different directions with guns drawn.

“Keep some bail money handy. It’s only a matter of time before that whorehouse gets raided with him inside,” is what Faryn had said to her in the bathroom at her wedding reception. Another prediction that had obviously come true. Just like everyone else in the establishment, Ava was made to get on her knees with her hands on top of her head. She was humiliated and hate for her husband was quickly starting to develop. A police officer was on a bullhorn reading them their rights, so there was no mistaking that they were all under arrest.

“I’m so sorry baby. I swear, I’m going to fix this,” Kane promised as he and Ava were cuffed and thrown into the back of a paddy wagon.

Ava shook her head in regret as they pulled away from the club and headed to central lock up. She knew that if Ella could see her now, she would be so disappointed. Not so much about her going to jail, but the circumstances as to why she was going. Kane wasn’t shit, and Ella had said that only a year into their marriage when she first found that he’d cheated and made her youngest child cry.
