“I don’t know,” Kya answered.

“Y’all can stop talking about me like I’m not standing here. I can answer for myself,” Ava noted.

“Look, I don’t know what’s going on with you and Kane, but please don’t bring your marital problems to my doorstep. Fuck around and get me and my kids put out,” she replied, as her two friends folded up their chairs and walked away.

They were loud as hell and they didn’t want their names to come up in no mess. The new owners of their complex were very strict. People got put out every day for one thing or the other. Truthfully, they weren’t even supposed to be sitting out there like they were. They didn’t need Ava to make matters worse.

“Ava, just leave. You and Kane are separated, so you have no reason to cause a scene,” Kya said, pissing Ava off.

“Girl, fuck you and fuck your brother. You ain’t nothing but a liar, just like his ass. But, you were the same bitch that smiled in my face the whole time, knowing what the fuck was going on. Now, I see why my brother fucked your sad ass and left you alone,” Ava snapped, hurting Kya’s feelings.

Kya was head over heels in love with Aiden at one time and that was a sore spot for her. People were standing around waiting to see if something was going to pop off, but Ava was calm. She just wanted to see everything for herself and not assume anything.

“I’m going inside and y’all need to leave. Janae, get your brother and sister and come on!” the woman yelled to her daughter as she folded up the chair that she was sitting in.

Both little girls took off running towards their mother, but the little boy kept riding his big wheel.

“I’m the wrong one for you to be mad at. Me and my mama told you to leave my brother a long time ago, but you chose to stay. This is not my fault,” Kya said angrily.

“Kane! Get your ass off that bike and come inside!” the woman yelled, making Ava swallow the words that were about to come out of her mouth.

“K… Kane?” she stuttered as her heart beat erratically in her chest.

“Shit,” Kya mumbled to herself, but Ava heard her loud and clear.

She looked at the little boy who shared the same name and, as she looked closer, the same features as her husband. There was no need to ask questions when the answer was staring her right in the face. The boy looked to be about two or three years old, so there was nothing that Kane could tell her. Ava didn’t have a doubt in her mind about the state of her marriage now. It was over and there was no coming back from that. They must have been too loud because the front door swung open, and a shirtless Kane stepped out onto the porch. He had a frown covering his handsome face until he saw his wife standing there staring at a secret that he’d tried his best to keep hidden.

“Baby, let me explain,” he said, sounding like a damn fool.

“Kane, you better get this stupid hoe from around here. I don’t have time for this shit,” the golden-haired woman fussed.

“Bitch, you better not ever disrespect my wife like that again. Fuck wrong with you, hoe,” Kane snapped as he got in her face.

She flinched, but she didn’t say anything. Instead, she went inside and got his keys and shoes and threw them outside before closing and locking her door. Kane had her fucked up for real. It wasn’t like he did shit for her anyway. He spent the night and fucked her occasionally, but it wasn’t that serious. He did take care of his son and that was good enough for her. Besides his sister, no one else in his family even knew that her baby existed. Kane never spent time with him, so he wouldn’t be missed.

“Can we go home and talk baby? Please, just let me explain myself,” Kane begged.

“Nigga, fuck you. You better go back inside with your bitch. Don’t come back to my house unless it’s to pack the rest of your shit!” Ava yelled as she walked back to her truck.

“Man, that’s still my house too. Five minutes Ava. Just give me five minutes to explain,” Kane begged her as he grabbed her from behind.

“Let me go! I don’t know what took me so long, but I’ll be going to file for divorce tomorrow,” Ava cried.

“I’m not signing shit, so you’re wasting your time. Please don’t do this Ava. What are people gonna think?” Kane said, hoping to play on one of her insecurities.

Ava lived for appearances and she wanted people to think that her life and marriage were perfect. That was why she’d swept his other affairs under the rug and stayed with him.

“For the first time ever, I really don’t give a fuck,” Ava said as she got in her car and pulled off.

She was physically and mentally drained and she couldn’t take anymore. As much as it pained her to admit it, her family was right. Ava felt stupid and she wasn’t afraid to admit it. She drove around aimlessly for a while, as Kane blew her phone up with calls and texts. She finally made up her mind and drove to the only place that had ever felt like home. Ava’s eyes were red and swollen from crying, but she didn’t care. She got out of her car and used her key to enter her mother’s house. She expected to see Ella in the living room when she entered, but she was greeted by Aiden instead. He looked at his twin sister with pity as he pulled her into a hug and let her cry on his shoulder. She didn’t have to say anything because he already knew. Truthfully, he’d known for a while, but some things Ava just had to see for herself. That was the only way she was going to believe it. Aiden was supposed to go out that night, but something compelled him to stay home. It was like he knew that his sister needed him, and he was happy that he was there for her.
