Chapter 39

“I think I’m gonna just cancel my appointment until next week,” Faryn said as she and Landon sat in the nursery and fed the twins.

“Why baby? You’ve been complaining about how your hair looks for weeks,” Landon reminded her.

“I know Landon, but I don’t feel right leaving them here. I thought Makena was going to come over,” Faryn noted.

Makena was stuck at home in bed with the flu. She’d originally agreed to come over and help Landon with the babies while Faryn went out for a while, but she couldn’t do anything right now. Faryn and Harley were supposed to get their hair done and go to the nail salon, but she was having second thoughts. She didn’t trust leaving her babies at home with Landon and the boys while she was gone for so long.

“I know how to take care of my kids, Faryn. I leave them here with you and I don’t feel no kind of way about it. What’s the difference?” he questioned.

“I’m a mother, Landon,” she noted.

“And I’m a father, Faryn,” he countered.

They stared at each other for a while, neither refusing to back down. Faryn was doing exactly what he didn’t want her to do. She was losing herself in him and the kids, and he didn’t like that. She needed time to herself and he wanted her to get it. Even when she went shopping with Harley, she didn’t come back with anything for herself. Everything purchased was for him and the kids. Landon felt so bad that he went on the Saks website and ordered her three pairs of red bottoms. She was so surprised when they came, but she was happy. She couldn’t stop smiling and that made Landon smile too.

“Okay Landon, I’ll go, but you better answer the phone every time I call. And don’t let Lennox and Lance hold them all day. That’s what their swings are for. And don’t overfeed Junior because he’ll start throwing up. Make sure you put cream on them after each diaper change because I don’t want them to get rashes. I pumped some milk this morning and I’ll let the boys make a few formula bottles too,” Faryn rambled.

“Baby, calm down. I’ve been a parent longer than you have. I know what I’m doing. Me and the boys can handle them by ourselves for a while. Just go enjoy yourself,” Landon laughed.

Faryn tried to make everything easier for them before she left, but Landon didn’t let her. Once she saw that he wasn’t budging, Faryn got dressed and headed out to enjoy her day with her best friend. Akira wasn’t going to get her hair done with them, but she wanted to join them at the nail salon and dinner when they were done.

“You know I hate driving, but I feel like I’ve been behind the wheel more than ever lately,” Faryn complained when she picked Harley up from her house.

“Stop complaining with your spoiled ass. Your husband is your personal chauffer, so you never drive anyway. Hell, you don’t even lift a figure when Landon is around,” Harley replied.

“Shut up and enjoy this free ride,” Faryn laughed as he drove them to the hair salon.

As soon as they got there, their stylists got right to work coloring Faryn’s hair. They made small talk for a few hours, as she relaxed and trimmed Harley’s hair as well. Once Faryn was done, she had to sit and wait while Harley got her hair curled.

“Bitch, I’m jealous. I want my hair that color. It’s beautiful,” Harley said as she admired the magenta colored hair that her friend was now sporting. Faryn’s dark hair had to be lifted to display the color and it came out better than she thought it would. She couldn’t wait until Landon saw it. She knew that he would love it as well.

“It’s so pretty,” April, their stylist, agreed.

“Thanks y’all.” Faryn smiled.

“Faryn has a nice grain of hair. She doesn’t get relaxers, so she can get color anytime,” April noted.

“I guess I need to thank my daddy. Whoever he is,” Faryn said, making them laugh.

“When are you gonna bring the babies, so I can meet them?” April asked.

“Girl, Landon ain’t letting his babies come in here,” Harley said.

“They’re my babies too, bitch. But, um, she’s right. My husband ain’t having it,” Faryn laughed.

“I’m trying to see how you dropped all that baby weight so fast. I’m still trying to shake back, and my daughter is almost two,” April said.

“Slim Fast and water were my life,” Faryn said as she got up and walked to the front sitting area.

The receptionist was sitting there with a cute little boy who must have been her son. She looked like a hot ghetto mess, but she was sweet and professional on the phone and to the customers who walked in. She answered the phones and took appointments for some of the barbers and stylists and she assisted with walk-in customers too.

“He is so handsome,” Faryn said as she smiled at the cute little boy.

She couldn’t wait until her babies were at the age that they could go places and walk on their own.

“Thank you,” the woman said as she smiled back.
