Chapter 4
“The fuck did that stupid bitch want?” Aiden asked his nephew when he got off the phone with Malia.
“Chill out with the name calling bruh. She’s still my son’s mother,” Landon replied.
“Man, fuck that bitch. She don’t act like nobody’s mama with her trifling ass. What is she calling for anyway?” Aiden asked again.
“She wants the boys to spend the night with her,” Landon replied.
“And you trust that shit? Do you even know the nigga that she’s living with?” Aiden inquired.
“Yeah, I met him and his brother before. They’re cool, and my boys said they treat them right. That’s all that matters to me.” Landon shrugged.
“Ain’t no damn way,” Aiden said, shaking his head.
“What?” Landon questioned.
“I just don’t see how you do it. I can’t be cool with no nigga that my bitch left me for,” Aiden noted.
“Man, I don’t have nothing against that dude. I wasn’t married to him and he don’t owe me shit,” Landon replied.
“Yeah, I guess you got a point. But, aye, since that hoe coming get the boys, you need to come hit the club with me this weekend,” Aiden said.
“Nah, hell no bruh. I’m good on going to the club, especially with your ass,” Landon replied.
“The fuck you mean? What’s wrong with going to the club with me?” Aiden questioned.
“You always into some shit bruh. I got kids and a career to think about. I can’t be out there getting caught up in no bullshit with you,” Landon replied.
“Nah nephew, I’m good on all that now. I ain’t been on that dumb shit lately,” Aiden swore.
“Nigga, you were just running from the police two weeks ago,” Landon reminded him.
“I know, but I’m a changed man now. And you should want to get your ass out of this damn house. You ain’t had pussy in over a year. You gon’ fuck around and get somebody pregnant when you do get some,” Aiden noted.
“Nah man, I’m good,” Landon maintained.
“Bruh, you got money, a big ass house, a nice car, and a few businesses that keep your accounts looking right. You’re my nephew, so being handsome runs in the family. You got the whole Saks Fifth Avenue in your closet, so clothes ain’t a problem. All this shit you got going for yourself and you still don’t have a woman. The fuck is you waiting on? Bitches don’t just fall from the sky. You gotta get out there and find one,” Aiden advised.
“First off, I don’t want a bitch. If I get somebody, it’s gon’ be a grown ass woman with something going for herself. Secondly, I’m not going to no club to find nobody. If it’s meant to be, she’ll come to me,” Landon replied.
“I feel that, but you still need to get out of this house bruh. All you do is work and come home,” Aiden said, right as Landon’s sons walked into the sitting room.
“My mama just called and said she’s coming to get us,” Lennox said excitedly.
Landon had purchased both his sons a phone and Malia always called to talk to them. Lance never answered for her, but Lennox looked forward to her calls.
“Yeah, she just called and told me. Y’all go pack a bag. She’s on her way,” Landon replied as he watched Lennox run back upstairs.
He was entertaining the idea of a night out with his uncle since his sons were leaving. Landon hadn’t done anything by himself in a long time. He always spent his weekends with his boys doing whatever they wanted to do. Even when they were with Malia, which wasn’t often, Landon would stay inside or do some overtime at work. He wasn’t even thirty years old and he had no life outside of his kids.
“Dad, can I talk to you for a minute?” Lance asked, sounding like a mature young man.
“What’s wrong?” Landon asked as he walked away, following his son into the kitchen.
“I don’t want to go with my mama. Can I stay here with you or go by GG?” Lance asked.
Landon remembered Faryn telling him how his son felt when he made him spend time with Malia. That was one of the reasons why he started acting out. Lance had been seeing Faryn for a little over a month and he was doing much better in school. He hadn’t had a fight since he started counseling and that was a bonus. Even his principal was impressed, and she called and told Landon just how well he was doing. He didn’t want to send him with Malia and ruin all the progress that he was making.
