“What do you mean?” Faryn asked after being stuck for a minute.
“Let me take you out. Maybe dinner and a movie or whatever you want to do,” Landon replied.
“God, you just don’t know how bad I want to say yes,” Faryn said as she looked into his handsome face.
“Okay, so say yes.” Landon smiled, making her weak in the knees.
“I can’t. It’s against the rules for me to date the family member of a client,” Faryn replied.
“I understand that, but who’s gonna know?” Landon questioned.
“Probably nobody, but I’m too afraid to take the risk,” Faryn said honestly.
Landon didn’t like her answer, but he understood her position. He was still happy that he asked her because he no longer had to wonder about the possibilities. He’d wanted to ask her out since he first saw her, but he hadn’t approached a woman in a long time. He didn’t even know what to say. He was happy when the opportunity finally presented itself tonight, even though it didn’t work out in his favor.
“I understand,” Landon said after a long pause. “Make sure you lock up and have a good night.”
“Thanks, you have a good night too,” Faryn replied as she walked inside and closed the door behind her.
It was morning, but no one cared about the time. Faryn stood with her back up against the door as she tried to control her breathing. She was very attracted to Landon and that was her first time being around him all alone. She had regrets about turning him down the moment the words flew from her mouth. Faryn always said that she wanted a good man and she’d probably run one of the best ones away because of her fear. Landon was right. There was no way for anyone to know if they’d gone on a date or not. For all Faryn knew, one date could be all that transpired between them. Even still, she would never know unless she took a chance. She was tired of playing it safe all the time. She had more fun in her wild teenage years. Lately, work and home were the highlights of her day, and she wanted a change. Deciding to take a chance for once, Faryn opened the door and looked down the hallway for Landon. He must have already gotten on the elevator, so she took the steps and saw him right as he got into his truck.
“Landon!” Faryn yelled out of breath.
“Yeah. Is everything okay?” he asked, looking around to make sure she wasn’t being followed.
“How about right now?” Faryn asked.
“What about right now?” Landon questioned.
“The date. How about right now?” Faryn asked again.
“Um… okay.” Landon smiled as he closed his car door and walked over to her.
