Chapter 7
Landon pulled up in front of his grandmother’s house and sat in his car for a while. His boys jumped out and ran inside, while he talked on the phone with Faryn. It had been exactly three months since he stayed the night at her house and they still hadn’t gone on an official date. He went to Faryn’s house all the time when his boys weren’t home but, most of the time, they talked on the phone all day. Faryn was still nervous about them dating, but Landon was running out of patience.
“You sure you don’t need me to bring anything?” Landon asked her.
“Nope, just you,” Faryn replied with a smile evident in her voice.
“Okay, I just got to my grandmother’s house, so I’ll be there in a little while,” Landon replied, right before they hung up.
He walked into the house and found his sister, grandmother, and uncle Aiden all in the kitchen talking. His nephew and Ava’s daughter were also standing there talking to his sons.
“Daddy! Look at what my auntie got us!” Lennox yelled excitedly as he showed Landon the hand-held video game that he had.
“That’s what’s up,” Landon replied with a smile.
His sister was always buying them something and he did the same with his only nephew. Makena had asked for her nephews to spend the night with her son, and Landon happily obliged. He didn’t have anything planned, so he was happy to be going spend the day with Faryn.
“Sit down and let me fix you something to eat,” Ella said when her grandson walked over and kissed her.
“No, I’m good. I’m going eat in a little while,” Landon replied.
“Going eat where?” Makena asked as she eyed him suspiciously.
“By a friend,” Landon replied.
“A fine ass friend,” Aiden smirked, making Landon frown.
“It’s Ms. Clark,” Lance blurted out.
“She’s pretty too,” Lennox replied.
Lennox had met Faryn one night when they went to her house for dinner and he wasn’t shy about admitting to the crush that he had on her.
“Y’all go in the room and play so the adults can talk,” Ella said to her grandkids.
“I met somebody grandma. It’s not a big deal,” Landon said, trying to move away from the situation.
“Boy, you ain’t had pussy in over a year. It’s a very big deal,” Aiden replied as he sat down at the table with a plate of food.
“Watch your mouth muthafucker,” Ella fussed, making them all laugh.
She had a mouth like a sailor and so did all her kids and grandkids. She usually let them express themselves freely but, occasionally, she would fuss at their use of language.
“Who is Ms. Clark?” Makena asked.
“Her name is Faryn and its Lance’s counselor. Well, she’s a behavioral specialist,” Landon noted.
“How long have you known her?” Makena questioned, jumping right into her role as the overprotective big sister.
“A few months, but I didn’t really talk to her like that until about three months ago. That’s who I was with a while back when Malia dropped Lennox off over here. The time you were ready to call the police because you thought I was missing,” he laughed while looking at his grandmother.
“You stayed the night at her house?” Makena questioned, remembering how nervous her grandmother was when Landon wasn’t answering his phone.
“Yeah, that was our first time talking to each other outside of her counseling Lance,” he replied.
“And she let you stay the night?” Makena inquired with a frown.
“I don’t like that hussy already. She gave it up on the first night. She didn’t even make you work for it,” Ella fussed as she stood to her feet.
