“What! No grandma, it wasn’t even like that. She cooked, and we talked while we ate. We watched movies and just fell asleep. I was on the floor and she stayed on the sofa.”
“All these months and you still ain’t hit it?” Aiden yelled.
“Shut up Aiden. That’s just why your nasty ass always need antibiotics,” Ella argued.
“Can she cook?” Makena questioned.
“Yeah, she’s a good cook,” Landon replied.
“So, is she your girlfriend?” Makena inquired.
“No, man. She’s scared to mess with me like that. It’s against the rules for her to date anybody associated with her clients,” Landon noted.
“Man, ain’t nobody gon’ know that shit. Tell her to stop acting like that,” Aiden replied.
“That’s the same thing I said, but she’s not trying to jeopardize her career.” Landon shrugged.
“Tell her that your big sister said you’re worth the risk.” Makena smiled. Her brother was a great catch and she just hoped whoever this new woman was realized it.
“Oh, well, I change my mind. She sounds like a keeper,” Ella said right as Ava walked through the door, making her grandkids and son frown in disgust.
“Hey mama. What’s up?” Ava asked, not bothering to speak to her niece and nephew or brother.
“Nothing much girl, just talking to Landon about his new girlfriend.” Ella smiled.
“It’s about damn time. He act like he was waiting for Malia to come back home. Either that or he gave up on women altogether,” Ava laughed.
“Bitch!” Makena said as she jumped up and lunged at her.
“Chill out niece. It ain’t even that serious,” Aiden said as he held Makena back.
“I wish Makena would. Don’t get mad at me for spitting facts,” Ava said as she stood behind her mother.
She wasn’t stupid. She and Makena had fought twice before, and she lost each time. Kane and Landon were always put in the middle, but Landon always had his sister’s back.
“Keep talking shit and watch I let her go,” Aiden threatened.
“What’s going on in here?” Kane said when he walked into the kitchen.
“You better get your wife before she gets her ass beat,” Aiden replied as he continued to hold Makena back.
“That ain’t gon’ happen,” Kane said as he stood in front of Ava like he was bad.
“The fuck you mean pussy ass nigga? I’ll drop your punk ass in here too,” Aiden threatened as he walked over to him.
He never did like Kane from the first day that Ava introduced them. He was a fraud, but his sister was blinded by dollar signs. Aiden knew he wasn’t right, but Ava would have to find that out for herself.
“Stop it! That’s enough of this foolishness,” Ella argued as she and Landon held Makena and Aiden back.
“I’m sorry grandma. I’m about to get the kids and go,” Makena replied.
“You don’t have to rush out of here for nobody. We’re family and y’all better start acting like it. Ava, you better watch that slick ass mouth of yours. I’m not gonna always be around to protect you,” Ella warned.
“I don’t need anybody to protect me. I can say what I want. I’m a grown ass woman,” Ava replied.
Makena walked off to go get the kids, while Ella continued to fuss at her daughter. Aiden was ready to knock his brother-in-law out, but Landon pulled him out to the porch before he could make a move.
“That fuck boy gon’ keep playing with me and Ava gon’ be burying his punk ass,” Aiden fumed as he pulled out a cigarette and lit it. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he took his niece’s father from her, but he was tempted.
