Chapter 16
An entire week had passed since Malia had her procedure and she was going in for a follow-up appointment. Roman had finally made his way back home, but they didn’t say much to each other. He seemed to be avoiding her, but she didn’t even care. Making her get rid of their child was the ultimate low and she hated him for it. She was surprised that he’d offered to take her to her follow up appointment, but she was happy at the same time. She didn’t even have to ask, and she was shocked when he offered.
“Everything all good?” Roman asked when Malia came from the back of the clinic and said that she was done.
“Yeah, I’m good,” she replied sadly.
“Don’t look like that man. This was for the best. Kids complicate shit and my life is complicated enough,” Roman said.
“I guess,” Malia replied, not agreeing with anything that he said.
“You hungry?” Roman asked, surprising her once again.
It had been a while since he was nice to her, but she was enjoying it. He grabbed her hand in his and Malia felt a little relieved.
“I’m starving,” Malia replied.
“What do you feel like eating?” Roman asked.
“It doesn’t matter,” Malia said as she looked out of the window.
She felt the depression creeping in, but she felt better knowing that Roman was there with her. He seemed to be feeling just as bad, but it was all his idea. Malia was going to play on his sympathies for as long as she could.
“What about Texas Roadhouse?” Roman asked.
“That’s cool,” Malia replied.
Thankfully, the restaurant wasn’t crowded, and they were seated right away. Their food was out, and they were enjoying their meals about thirty minutes later. Usually, Roman would be in a hurry and rushing her to finish. He seemed to be calm and he didn’t look like he was ready to go any time soon.
“You want some dessert?” he asked once they were done eating.
“No, I’m stuffed,” Malia replied.
“Let’s go to Best Buy right quick,” Roman requested.
“For what?” Malia asked.
“I need another big screen for the bedroom,” Roman replied.
He threw some money on the table, and Malia followed him out. After going to Best Buy, they went to Walmart for household necessities. Roman was never one to shop, but he got tons of soap, toothpaste, and other things that they needed. The store was more crowded than usual, and Malia was drained. They had been gone for hours and she was ready to get in her bed.
“Where are we going now?” she asked once they got back into the car.
“Home,” was his simple reply.
She didn’t want to nag him, but she was happy to hear it. When they pulled up to the house, Chad was sitting on the porch, but he stood up when he saw Roman’s car pull up. Chad wasn’t there when they left, and his car wasn’t out front like it usually was. He had a smirk on his face when he walked up to the car that Malia would have loved to slap off.
“Where are you about to go?” Malia questioned while looking over at Roman.
“I got a few moves to make,” was his simple reply.
“How long are you gonna be?” Malia asked as Chad stood there, impatiently waiting for her to get out.
“I don’t know. I’ll call you,” Roman answered.
Gone was the nicer Roman who wanted to spend time with her and seemed to enjoy it. In his place was the one who just didn’t give a damn and didn’t want to be bothered. Malia was over his attitude already. She knew once he got with Chad that he would probably be out all night. That was probably his reason for being so sweet to her. It was all good though. He was going to pay for how he treated her and that she was sure of.
“About damn time,” Chad hissed when she opened the door and got out.
