“Let me call you back Monica,” Malia replied.
“Wait…” Monica said, but Malia hung up anyway.
She called her son’s phone and waited for him to pick up.
“Hey mama,” Lennox said when he answered his phone.
“Hey baby. What are you doing?” Malia asked.
“Nothing, I’m on the computer in my bedroom,” Lennox replied.
“Where’s Lance?” Malia asked.
“He’s in the kitchen talking to Faryn,” Lennox replied, making her frown.
“Does Faryn live there with y’all?” Malia asked.
“Yeah, sometimes,” Lennox answered as honestly as he could.
“I miss my babies. It’s been two weeks since I saw you and Lance,” Malia said, moving on to another subject.
Malia had been picking Lennox up, but he never wanted to spend the night with her anymore. She would spend the day with him and have him back home that night. She tried her best to get a look at Faryn whenever she went there, but Landon was always outside alone when she arrived. She never even saw a second car parked out front, so she never knew if someone else was there or not.
“I miss you too,” Lennox said after a long pause.
“I wanna come see you,” Malia replied.
“You can’t right now. My dad is not here to let you in.”
“Where is he?” Malia asked.
“He went to get my uncle Aiden out of jail,” Lennox answered.
“And he left y’all there with her?” Malia asked, jealousy dripping from her voice.
“Yeah, Faryn is always here with us,” Lennox acknowledged.
“Oh, well, you can let me in when I get there,” Malia pointed out.
“I can’t. My dad said that I can’t do that anymore. I’m gonna get in trouble,” Lennox replied.
“No, you’re not baby. I just talked to your father and he said that it’s okay. I told him that I want to see you and Lance, and he said that’s it’s fine.”
“He did?” Lennox asked.
“He sure did. I also heard about how nice your room is, so I’ll finally be able to see it,” Malia lied effortlessly.
It was easy because she was manipulating a child. She should have been ashamed of herself, but she wasn’t.
“It is nice. My dad put a basketball goal up behind my bedroom door,” Lennox said excitedly.
“I can’t wait to see it. What’s the code to get in?” Malia asked.
She wrote down the information that Lennox had given her before they disconnected. They had a guard at the gate, but he had to alert the residents to see if they were okay with a visitor being there before they were let in. She was sure that Landon’s little girlfriend would never be okay with her coming there. Besides, she wanted her visit to be a pleasant, yet unsuspecting surprise.
Malia got up and found a cute outfit to put on. She unwrapped her shoulder-length hair and applied a little makeup to her face. She wanted to make sure that Faryn’s first impression of her was a lasting one. Once she was satisfied with her appearance, Malia grabbed her wedding ring from her jewelry box and slipped it on. She wasn’t going in there to play. She was a woman on a mission and she was determined to accomplish it.
