Chapter 25
As the season changed, so did Faryn’s body. She was now five months pregnant and she had no idea when her huge belly had appeared. She went to bed one night with a little pudge and woke up looking like she’d swallowed a watermelon. Landon and the kids were happy, and they rubbed her belly all the time. Everybody was hoping for a girl, but Faryn had become partial to boys. They seemed easier to care for, from what she could see when helping with Lance and Lennox.
“Y’all have a good day!” Faryn yelled to the boys as they got out of the car in front of their school.
Landon was so thankful that he could get Lance back into the private school that he had gone to before. Lennox was happy to have his big brother back there as well. The principal of the other school wrote a recommendation letter of his behalf. As his counselor, Faryn had to write one as well to let them know that he was seeing her bi-weekly for anger management and how he was progressing. Lance was already receiving compliments from the staff and Landon was happy for that.
They’d been begging him to go back to Disney World but, with Faryn being pregnant, he didn’t want to chance her flying. Her doctor said that it was fine, but he wasn’t taking any risks. Landon did something even better. He took them on a Disney cruise before they went back to school and that made everybody happy. His sons deserved it and so did Faryn. The boys had even gone to spend a week with Malia at Cora’s house before school started. She asked Lance to come and, surprisingly, he did.
“You ready to lose your money?” Landon asked her with a smile as they drove away.
“Nigga, you better be ready to pay up,” Faryn replied.
“I’m telling you, Faryn, that’s my daughter. I can feel it.”
“I don’t feel nothing but heartburn,” Faryn replied, making him laugh.
“You need me to stop and get you something?” Landon asked.
“No, I’ll be okay,” she replied.
Faryn was going into work late because she had a doctor’s appointment. They were finding out the sex of their baby, and she and Landon had made a bet. He put up a thousand dollars believing that it was a girl. Faryn matched his bet because she assumed it was a boy.
“We’re over an hour early for the appointment. You wanna go back home or by my grandmother?” Landon asked.
“We can go by your grandmother. If we go back home, I’ll probably fall asleep.” Faryn yawned.
She didn’t usually get up so early, but they took the boys out to breakfast before taking them to school. At the mention of food, Faryn was up and dressed before they were.
“The fuck!” Landon said when he turned down Ella’s street.
They had an ambulance, firetruck, and police cars cluttering the street. His heart dropped when he saw that they were right in front of Ella’s door.
“Baby, calm down, look, Ms. Ella is fine,” Faryn said as she pointed to his grandmother and Makena standing in the middle of the street.
Landon parked as close as he could before getting out and helping Faryn do the same.
“What happened?” Landon asked while giving his grandmother and sister a kiss on the cheek when they walked up.
“Hey y’all.” Makena smiled as she rubbed Faryn’s round belly.
“I don’t know what happened. I heard sirens and I ran out here. I panicked when I saw them rushing into Robin’s house. I thought something had happened to my child until I saw her come out and stand on the porch,” Ella spoke up.
“We’re not that lucky,” Makena replied sarcastically.
“You stop that Makena. Robin is a no-good bitch, but that’s still my child. And no matter how trifling she is, she’s still your mother,” Ella fussed.
“You’re our mother,” Landon corrected, right as the paramedics wheeled a stretcher out with Robin’s boyfriend, Leroy, on it.
Ella rushed over to see what had happened. Robin locked up her house as she talked to her mother. Once they put Leroy in the back of the ambulance, Robin hugged her mother and got back there with him.
“They think he had a heart attack,” Ella informed them when she walked back over and led them inside the house.
“Sorry to hear that. What time is your appointment Faryn?” Makena asked, changing the subject. She wasn’t about to pretend to care about her mother or her man. They never cared about her or Landon, and she was returning the gesture.
“It’s at ten. We stopped over here because it was too early to go,” Faryn replied.
“Y’all better call me the minute they say something. I swear, I’m going shopping today if it’s a girl. Hell, I’m going shopping either way, but I just need to know. One of my friends that I went to school with is taking care of the baby shower for me. She’s an event coordinator and her work is amazing,” Makena beamed.
