Chapter 28
“We can name the girl Latasha. A girl in my class has the same name,” Lennox spoke up from the back seat.
“Yeah and she’s ugly too. Faryn don’t name her that. I don’t want my sister named after that girl,” Lance fussed.
“Your girlfriend is ugly too,” Lennox replied.
“What girlfriend?” Faryn asked.
“You got a girl Lance?” Landon asked.
“He better not. He’s only eleven,” Faryn answered.
“That’s old enough,” Landon smirked.
“I don’t have no girlfriend, but she likes me,” Lance noted.
“Yeah and she’s ugly,” Lennox repeated.
“I know. That’s why she’s not my girlfriend,” Lance said, making them laugh.
They were headed to Ella’s house to discuss a few details for the baby shower. Landon and Faryn had already picked out the furniture and were preparing the room. They chose the nursery rhyme theme because it was cute and unisex. Faryn was now in her sixth month and her stomach was much bigger than the month before. It was becoming more obvious that she had more than one life growing inside of her. Maybe it was a good thing that she was no longer working because she was already starting to move slower. It was only a matter of time before she and Landon would have to occupy one of the spare bedrooms downstairs. She wouldn’t be able to walk up the stairs soon.
“Ross is here,” Lennox said excitedly when they pulled up.
“Yes,” Lance replied.
Makena’s son was out front with one of the neighbor’s sons, throwing the football around.
“Y’all don’t go nowhere and stay out of the street,” Landon ordered when his sons got out of the car.
He noticed a lot more cars on the block than usual and people were going in at out of Leroy’s house. When Landon walked into his grandmother’s house, he was surprised to see Ella sitting there with her arms wrapped around his mother. Robin’s eyes were red and swollen when she looked up at him.
“Leroy passed away at the hospital today Landon. He had another heart attack, but it was massive,” Ella said sadly.
“Oh word. Where’s Makena?” Landon asked.
“I’m right here lil brother. Come on so I can show y’all what I came up with,” Makena replied as she walked from the back of the house.
“What you eating?” Landon asked her.
“A turkey sandwich. You want one?” Makena asked.
“I do,” Faryn spoke up.
“Okay, I’ll make you one,” Makena replied.
“Insensitive asses. I’m gonna get y’all two for this,” Ella threatened as she looked at them through squinted eyes.
“What is she talking about?” Landon asked when they got to the kitchen.
“She wants somebody to feel sorry for Robin. I left all my fucks at home, so I have none to give.” Makena shrugged.
“Who felt sorry for us when that nigga said he didn’t he want us living under his roof? Thank God for grandma or we wouldn’t have had nowhere else to go,” Landon replied.
“Exactly,” Makena co-signed.
She fixed Landon and Faryn a sandwich as she got their approval on some things for the baby shower. Faryn had never had a party or anything that put her in the spotlight, so she was excited. The ideas that Makena’s friend had were nice, and she and Landon loved it.
