“You stopped smoking, right?” Remi was asking her a few questions for the paperwork that she needed to update.

“Well…I…” Ms. Bertha stammered slightly.

“Ms. Bertha, no. Please, whatever you do, stay away from the cigarettes. That’s why I’m here to begin with.”

“You’re right baby and I know better. Over fifty years of smoking finally caught up to me. But that’s a hard habit to break.”

“I know it is but I need you to try harder,” Remi said right as she heard the front door open and close. She was praying that Ms. Bertha’s daughter and granddaughter hadn’t come back. Remi was bound to lay hands one of them hoes if they did.

“Shh, that’s probably my baby. He’s gonna kill me if he knows I had a cigarette.”

Remi was anticipating an older man walking into the room and she was ready for yet another one of Bertha’s kids to piss her off. She smelled his expensive cologne before he even entered the room. Remi was rarely speechless but her words were caught in her throat when she laid eyes on the male specimen that stood before her. He was cute as fuck but, even if he wasn’t, his body made up for it. He was tall and muscular and his hair was cut low on the side and curly up top. Remi couldn’tremember the last time she desired another man but she was in full lust mode now.

“Hey beautiful. How you feeling?” He leaned down and gave his grandmother a kiss.

“I’m okay baby. This is Remedy, the nurse that you got for me. Remi, this is my baby, Blaze. I’m so happy that y’all finally got a chance to meet.”

Although Remi had never met him before that day, she already liked him. His grandmother spoke very highly of him, and she was impressed. She didn’t meet too many men who were nurturers so that was refreshing to see.

“Damn, me too. How you doing sweetheart?” Blaze asked as he openly flirted with her.

“Much better now.” Remi wasn’t shy so she flirted right back.

“Well, that went better than I expected.” Ms. Bertha giggled at their exchange.

Her grandson was married so she knew he wouldn’t go too far. At least she hoped he didn’t. She stood up and shuffled off to the kitchen to allow them some time to talk. She sometimes hated to hear things about the condition that was eventually gonna kill her and today was no exception.

“Any changes or anything that I need to know about?” Blaze looked at Remi, awaiting an answer. He took a few minutes to admire her natural beauty. When she stood up, he wasn’t even paying attention to what she was saying. Remi was fine as fuck and her ass was sitting up just right in her scrubs. Unlike his wife, her shit was natural and fit her shape perfectly.

“So, that’s about it. Any questions or concerns that you wanna run by me?” Remi asked after running everything down to him.

“My bad, love. I wasn’t even paying attention to what you were saying.” Blaze licked his lips lustfully, letting her know that he was very interested.

“Yeah, that’s because my face is up here.”

“Pretty as fuck too.”

“If only you weren’t already taken.” Remi tapped the ring on his finger before she walked away to check on Ms. Bertha.

“Damn.”

Blaze was kicking himself for not leaving his ring in the safe with the divorce papers. He had never cheated on Reanna, not even when they were dating. He did his share of flirting and looking but he never touched. Temptation was all around him, so it wasn’t easy. Remi had him ready to risk it all but he had to check himself. Until he was out of one situation, he shouldn’t have been trying to get into another. Once Blaze got his head on straight, he walked off in search of Remi and his grandmother.

After the assessment of her patient, Remi packed up and prepared to leave. Blaze walked her out and finally listened, as she ran a few things down to him. She was very knowledgeable of his grandmother’s condition and she sounded like she knew her shit. Blaze was impressed and he was happy that the agency sent her over.

“So, Jean and Blaire are your mother and sister,” Remi said as more of a statement than a question.

“Please don’t hold it against me.”

“Nah, I can already tell the difference. You actually care.”

“That’s my heart in there. She did shit for me that my own mama didn’t do. I don’t give a fuck who don’t show up for her because I always will.”

“I hope your wife knows that she’s one lucky bitch.”

“Shit, she ain’t acting right anyway so don’t feel bad if you have to take me from her.”

“Sorry boo, I don’t do other people’s husbands, no matter how fine they are.”
