He didn’t need anything but he couldn’t take the way that Kiva was looking at him. For the first time in a while, he didn’t see anger in her face. He saw disappointment and that was worse in his opinion.

Mav was pissed when he saw that Blaze had stuck a flyer under his windshield. The nigga was bold as fuck and playing in Mav’s face like he was a lil boy or some shit.

“Blazin’ Cuts,” Mav read the name of his newest competitor before he crumbled up the flyer and threw it out of the window. He grabbed his phone and dialed a number as he sped up the highway.

“Hello.”

Remi sounded like she was half sleep, but he didn’t give a fuck. He was tired of her playing games and she was gon’ see him.

“What kind of fucking games are you playing, Remi?”

“I’m fine, Maverick. How are you?” Her reply sounded just as sarcastic as it should have.

“I’m not in the mood for your bullshit, Remi. Where you at? I’m on my way to wherever. We need to get some shit straight.”

“Like what?” Remi had just laid down on Tracy’s sofa and dozed off when her phone rang.

“What kind of muthafucking games you outchea playing with this other nigga, bruh? His bitch ass was bout to get fucked over just now. The same for you if you don’t stop playing with me.”

Remi was tired at first but she was wide awake now. She sat up, all traces of sleep removed. Mav was on the phone sounding like he was her nigga, and he had her fucked up. She already knew that he was talking about Blaze without her even having to ask. Lately, that was all that he wanted to discuss when they talked, and she was over it. That’s exactly why she refused to make things official with him.

“Nah, nigga, cause this ain’t what we bout to do. You ain’t my nigga and I don’t owe you no explanation about nothing I do.”

“Yeah, you do cause I really need you to explain how you shit on me for another bitch’s husband.”

“The same way you can lie and say you and your baby mama are separated when y’all work and live together.”

Remi was really picking him for info but she didn’t have any definite proof. She finally came clean and told Tracy everything about Mav and Blaze, and her girl was confused. To her knowledge, Mav and Kiva were still together but she couldn’t really confirm it. She hadn’t gone to Kiva’s salon in a while, so she couldn’t be certain. Remi also remembered the comment that Blaze made when his grandmother was in the hospital. Blaze basically said that she didn’t want him because he was married but he also made it seem like Mav was taken too. She didn’t care one way or the other but, if she did have an affair, she didn’t want to be tricked into it. He’d done that before so she wouldn’t have been surprised.

“The fuck!” Mav chuckled nervously. “Make that make sense when you’ve been to my house and stayed the night a few times too. Hell, you got a key to that bitch.”

Remi got quiet for a second because that was the one part that she couldn’t quite figure out. She had been to Mav’s house multiple times and he was right; she did spend some nights and had a key. Still, niggas were sneaky as fuck and she didn’t put nothing past them. Ferris used to rent Airbnbs and lie to his hoes like it was his.

“Nigga, that might be your hoe house for all I know. And, truthfully, I really don’t give a fuck. You don’t owe me no explanation either.”

“Where you at Remedy? I wanna see you.”

“Not today Mav, I’m tired.”

“Oh, but I bet you be up and alert when that married nigga call you though.”

“Stop dry snitching. I told you that I already know he’s married.”

“And you still fucking the nigga.”

“Nah, not yet but I want to,” Remi replied honestly as she yawned.

“Bitch—” Mav’s words were cut off when Remi yelled and interrupted him.

“Ya mammy!” Remi hung the phone up right as Tracy walked into the room. She turned her ringer off since he knew that he was about to blow her up.

“Who’s mammy?” Tracy asked.

“Girl, that was Mav with his stupid ass.”

“What happened this time?”

“He on that good bullshit again like he’s my man. I already knew he was gonna be calling though. Blaze told me they got into it and shit.”
