“Blaze is that nigga, honey. Y’all make such a cute couple.”
“Yeah, I think so too. I don’t want to sound negative but I just keep getting this weird feeling.”
“What kind of weird feeling?” Tracy asked as she doused herself in one of her many bottles of expensive perfume.
“I don’t know, I just keep thinking that something is gonna go wrong. I know I’m probably just being paranoid but I can’t shake it.”
“You need to start embracing your happiness Remedy and so do I. I have a man who loves me unconditionally and I’m over giving a fuck about other people’s opinion. You’ve spent years neglecting yourself to take of your father, and I commend you for that. Mr. Reid is gone now and you need to enjoy being happy and in love. He would want that for you. I want that for you.”
“Aww, thanks sis, and I want the same for you.”
“Good, now, enough of this mushy shit. It’s a beautiful day outside. Let’s get out of this house and go enjoy it.”
She didn’t have to tell Remi twice. Blaze was working and she had the entire day to spend with her friend. Since they wereboth hungry, they decided to have an early lunch before hitting up the mall.
Once they ate and paid, they were headed for the exit until Tracy saw someone that she knew. Remi walked to her car with her head down in the phone, replying to a text from Blaze. She didn’t even notice that someone was heading in her direction until they were right up on her.
“Hey Remi,” a female voice echoed, scaring her half to death.
She looked up and was shocked to see Kiva and her sister, Kerri, standing there. Remi gripped the handle of the gun that was in her purse, preparing to defend herself if she had to. Although she and Kiva messed with the same man once before, they never really had beef. Remi used to always hear things that Kerri said about her but she didn’t care how she felt.
“Oh no, please don’t tell me that you’re coming to me as a woman.” Remi shook her head and laughed at the entire situation.
“Yeah, actually, I am,” Kiva replied.
“She’s trying to be grown about it, but we can get ignorant if that’s what we need to do.”
“Is that supposed to scare me? What’s up with it?” Remi was always down for a good rumble, so Kerri wasn’t saying nothing.
“Oh, hell no! What the fuck is going on out here?” Tracy walked out of the restaurant and stood next to her friend. They had her fucked up if they thought they were about to jump her.
“Who the fuck you supposed to be, Tracy? You don’t put fear in nobody. Coming outchea like you a big dog.” Man or woman, she had Kerri fucked up.
“Kerri, stop, no, that’s not what we came here for. I just have a lot of questions that I think you can answer. Can we talk for a minute, Remi? I won’t take up too much of your time.” Kiva regretted her decision to let Kerri roll with her. She was too old to always be on some dumb shit and that wasn’t what she was there for.
“Yeah, we can run it. What’s up?” Remi matched energy, but Kiva wasn’t being disrespectful like her sister was.
“Can you give us a minute, sis?” Kiva looked at her sister with pleading eyes. She was really trying to be grown about everything, and Kerri was too childish to understand.
“Yeah, I’ll be right over here if you need me.” Kerri looked at Remi like she was giving her a warning.
“And I’ll be right here with her,” Tracy challenged while looking Kerri up and down.
Remi rolled her eyes, as Kerri turned and walked away with Tracy hot on her heels. She was curious as to what Kiva wanted but she had an idea. Remi unlocked her car doors and allowed Kiva to get in. She had her gun close by just in case some shit popped off and went left but she seriously doubted she would need it. Kiva didn’t seem like she was on no bullshit and neither was Remi.
“First off, I just want to say this is not even me right now. I’m stepping all the way outside of my character but I feel like I don’t have much of a choice.”
Kiva felt like a fool for going at another woman about her man. Sadly, Mav was a compulsive liar so she would never get the truth out of him. For some reason, it seemed that Remi was eager to talk to her and she couldn’t wait to find out why. Nessa was right when she said that she should go to the source to find out what she wanted to know. Kiva hesitated to go at Remi but it was obviously meant for them to talk. Her client cancelled her appointment and she accompanied her sister to lunch since she had some free time. Seeing Remi in the same restaurant wasn’t a coincidence in her opinion. She’d already made up her mind to be done with Mav but she still had a lot of unanswered questions. The fight that he’d lost at the basketball game was the final nail in his coffin. This time when she left, she was gonna have enough dirt on him to bury his dog ass, and Remi was gonna be the bitch to help her throw it.
Mav had just finished with his last customer and locked up his shop. He couldn’t even front, his place hadn’t been nearly as crowded as it used to be before Blaze left. Money was still good, but it was better when he was there. He was still salty about the fight they’d had a few weeks ago, but it was far from being over. Mav was no killer and he wasn’t on no gunplay shit. He had a gun for his own personal protection but he’d never had to use it. The way he was gonna deal with Blaze was gonna be an entirely different kind of pain. That nigga thought he had Remi all to himself but Mav knew her better than him or any other nigga ever would.
Remi was a free spirit sexually and she wasn’t a one-man kinda woman. Blaze was wasting his time if he was looking for a commitment. Remi was known for keeping niggas in the friendzone, and Mav knew that better than anyone. He also knew that she only did that so she could do whatever she wanted without having to answer to anyone. She refused to give what they had a title and he already knew why. Still, there was just something about Remi that he couldn’t let go of. He loved Kiva but he loved Remi just the same. Just thinking about her had him taking a chance and calling her once again, hoping that she’d eventually pick up.
“What, Maverick?” Remi sighed when she answered the phone.
“Man, you play so many muthafucking games, bruh.” Mav was hoping that he didn’t sound as excited as he felt. Remi barely answered the phone for him now since she started kicking it with Blaze.
“How am I playing games?”
