“I thought you said we were gonna link soon.”

“Nah, I’m good on you, Mav. You got a girl and I don’t like to share.”

“Here you go with this bullshit again. I’m single, unlike the nigga you been laying up with lately.”

“How do you know who I’m laying up with?”

“Shit, for the past few months, it ain’t been me. That nigga must be getting it.”

“Y’all niggas ain’t shit so I been keeping my kitty on lock.”

“What do I have to do for the key?”

“Call Kiva,” Remi replied sarcastically.

“Kiva is the mother of my son and business partner.”

“Yeah, I hear you.”

“I miss you, baby. Let a nigga come through.”

“I’ll pass. You lie too much for me.”

“Man, nigga ain’t lying to you about nothing. Come on Remi, let me come see you.”

“No, I’ll come see you.”

“Seriously Remi? That nigga got you moving like that now.”

“What are you even talking about Maverick?”

“I’m just trying to see what’s up. That nigga must be living with you now or something. It was never a problem for me to come over there before.”

“And it’s not one now. Maybe you have an issue with me coming by you. That was never a problem before either.”

“You got a key to my shit, so you already know what’s up with me.”

“Okay, well, I’m on my way.”

“I’m not home yet but that’s even better. Let yourself in and meet me in the bedroom in my favorite outfit.”

“And what outfit is that?” Remi asked seductively.

“Your birthday suit!” Mav yelled like she should already know.

“You got that, boo. Don’t keep me waiting too long. I would hate to start without you.”

“Shit, I’ll be there soon. I’m bout to break all the rules to get to that ass,” Mav replied before he hung up.

He made a U-turn in the middle of the street and headed towards the bridge. Mav dialed Kiva’s number, thinking of a lie as it rang. Things with them had been going good since he hadn’t been dealing with Remi anymore. Kiva wasn’t on his back anymore and she let him come and go as he pleased. Even when he was out later than he should have been, she never tripped. She didn’t have a full schedule so she left the salon a few hours earlier than he did.

“Hey, baby,” Kiva answered on the third ring.

“What’s up, love? What you and MJ doing?”

“Nothing, we’re over here by my mama chillin’ with Kerri and my nieces.”

Mav rolled his eyes at the mention of her sister. Kerri was a hating ass bitch, which was why he was so surprised that she didn’t tell Kiva about seeing him being hugged up with Remi. He was walking on egg shells for weeks waiting for Kiva to explode but that day never came.
