“Oh alright, I just left the shop. I’m going have a few drinks with my pops so I’ll be home kinda late.”

“Don’t drink too much and be trying to drive, Maverick. Call me if you have to and I don’t care how late it is.”

“I got you, baby. I love you.”

“Love you too.” Kiva blew a kiss into the phone before she hung up.

Mav was excited as he called his father to let him know that he used him as an alibi. He was gonna be pissed to know that he was hooking up with Remi again but Mav didn’t give a damn.

After being lectured by his father, Mav turned up his music and sped all the way to the Northshore. He stopped and got a bottle of D’usse and started sipping from the bottle as he drove. He smiled when he pulled up to his complex and saw Remi’s car parked in one of the visitor’s spots. A wicked smile sped across Mav’s face as he thought about what he was about to do.

It was fucked up, but Blaze was about to see just how Mav got down. Remi was his bitch first and she always would be. After the stunt that he was about to pull, she probably wouldn’t even want to fuck with him now more. Mav’s pride was wounded and that was a chance that he was willing to take.

He got out of the car and walked up to his apartment door. He started recording on his phone before he opened the door and went into a dark, quiet apartment. He had to find the perfect place to sit it so that Remi didn’t get suspicious. Once Blaze saw him blowing Remi’s back out on camera, whatever they had would be over before it could even get started. Mav was all smiles as he maneuvered down the long, dark hall. He opened his bedroom door and flipped on the lights, expecting to see Remi butt ass naked in his king size bed. His mouth dropped and so did his bottle of cognac when he was met with another view instead.

“Pick up your bottle, Maverick. I would hate for your father to have to drink alone,” Kiva said as she sat comfortable on his bed with her long, toned legs crossed. Remi was perched up on his dresser with a sly smile covering her face.

“So, what were you saying about being single, Maverick?” Remi asked as she put her hand up to her ear like she was awaiting an answer.

“Chile, and here I was thinking that I was in a relationship,” Kiva laughed sarcastically.

“Girl, I know the feeling. Niggas just throw you into an affair without even asking if you’re cool with being the side bitch.”

“Honey, I might be the side bitch for all I know. Shit, you got a key to an apartment that I didn’t even know about. All I got was a baby and some bills.”

“No, girl, it seems that everybody knew that y’all were together. I was his little Northshore secret. You got the benefits of being the main girl.”

“Well, you did get the same car and some of the same shoes, so it’s hard to tell. No wonder the man at Saks was getting confused. Imagine my tall ass wearing a size seven,” Kiva laughed.

“Not him trying to give you my size. You got good taste though. We got more in common than I thought, huh Mav?” Remi giggled.

“And let’s not forget about the fight at the game. You know, the one he lost. That was all for you too, girl. I don’t know, this is a hard one.”

“Well, if I’m gonna be a sister-wife, at least you’re cute.” Remi and Kiva both laughed at her joke.

Mav stood there in shock as they went back and forth like he wasn’t even in the room. There was no need for him toeven defend himself. Apparently, they’d already talked and knew everything. Mav did what Kiva said and picked up his bottle before he turned and walked way. He still heard them laughing and talking when he walked out of the apartment and back to his car. He stopped recording because it was a bust. Instead of recording himself being knee-deep in some pussy, he recorded how he got caught cheating.

Mav felt like a damn fool as he drove across the same bridge that he’d sped across minutes before. He was no longer excited to get to his destination, especially since he didn’t know what awaited him when he got there. He didn’t want to deal with his situation at all but he was ready to get it over with. He figured he’d start at home with Kiva first. She wouldn’t be as hard to convince as Remi.

Truthfully, he didn’t know if he was gonna go at Remi at all. He lied to her and he was sure that she was done with him. She had Blaze on her team now, so she probably didn’t even care. If he were keeping it real, Remi had stopped fucking with him months ago. He was the one who couldn’t let it go and kept going at her. He hated that he kept hurting Kiva and he was sure that she was sick of it too. Mav swore that he was gonna get his shit together when Kiva forgave him this time. He had a good girl that he was gonna lose if he didn’t get his shit together.

Mav drove home, rehearsing what he wanted to say to Kiva once he saw her. He wasn’t opposed to begging. It wasn’t like it would be his first time. He knew that he was gonna have to kiss some ass and cash out on her too. His heart was beating faster than normal when he pulled up to the house. He knew that he’d beat Kiva home because he left before she did. Mav walked inside with a lot on his mind. He went into their bedroom, prepared to wait for Kiva to get there.

As soon as he walked into the room, he felt that something was off. Mav looked around but he didn’t see anything out of place. That was until he opened the closet. Kiva’s side was empty and looked like nothing had ever been over there.

“The fuck!”

Mav ran and looked in the drawers, and it they were identical to the closet. All of Kiva’s clothes were gone. It was the same with the bathroom and dresser. All of her toiletries and fragrances were gone as well. There he was practicing an apology for when Kiva came home, and she was already gone. He didn’t even bother going to look in his son’s room because that would have only depressed him more. He had no one to blame but himself. Everyone had a breaking point and Kiva had reached hers.

Mav hated to admit it but his father’s predictions had finally come true. Fucking around with Remi had indeed cost him his family.

“You should have slapped that dirty bitch in her face. She probably been had that shit planned. I can’t see Kiva doing nothing so low down.”

Mav pulled from his blunt as he drove and listened to his father going off once again. A few weeks had passed since everything happened with him, Kiva and Remi and his father just refused to let it go. Mav just assumed he would see Kiva at work to have a chance to plead his case, but that never happened. Kiva already had a plan in motion and she never even came back to the shop. She started back doing hair in her mother’s garage, and he heard that she was looking for another salon to work in. She was really done withMav, but there was no beef. Kiva answered when he called but she made it clear that MJ was the only thing that they had to discuss. If he ever tried to talk about something else, she either changed the subject or hung up if she’d already said what she had to say.

“Man, I’m over blaming other people for my fuck ups. This shit ain’t on Remi. This is all on me.”

For the first time ever, Mav was taking some accountability for his actions. He was always thinking with the wrong head and it finally caught up with him. Sad part of it all was that he couldn’t honestly say that he’d learned his lesson. He was already looking for some new players to add to his team. Blaire must have been the first to hear about his breakup because she had been blowing him up. Mav said that he was good on her before but she was just what he needed. He could use Blaire to keep up with what Remi and her punk ass brother had going on.
