Page 144 of Deliverance

Skyla and I are talking about my new job, when Maggie jumps up onto the counter, hitting her fork against her champagne glass as she gains the attention of the room. The DJ turns down the music as everyone turns to face her.

“I just wanted to take a moment and thank Skyla and the guys for throwing this amazing party. We are so lucky to have such amazing friends in our lives.”

“Yeah you are!” Skyla shouts with a proud smile.

Maggie smirks, as she jumps down to the floor.

“I also wanted to take this moment to give a shout out to my girlfriend. I’ve never met anyone who is stronger, braver, and takes what she wants. You are the absolute light of my life, Bridgette.”

I smile as she comes up to me before Skyla hands her a jewelry box. I look between the two of them when Maggie pops open the box, revealing a huge diamond ring. Every muscle in my body stills and I feel like I’m going to pass out as I watch Maggie grinning at me.

“I’m making the first move here, baby B. I’m coming to you. What do you s?—?”

Tears fill my eyes and I press my lips to hers before she can even finish talking.

“Yes! Of course! Of course,” I smile with a shake of my head.

The house erupts in celebration, but I can’t really focus on any of that. All I see is Maggie, all I can think about is her. Maggie. The love of my life. My fucking soulmate. My fiancée.

Goddamn. I’m not sure life gets much better than this.
