“Oh, I figured you guys would want a break from hanging out with the old folks.” She laughs.
Ty shrugs the very obvious brush-off away as he drags Arianna into his lap, smacking the side of her ass as he does.
“That’s fine, I can spend more time with my girl.”
Fire ignites in my veins at his words because she has never, and will never, be his girl.
“I have some more things to catch up on,” I say, pulling the room’s attention to me. “Next time.”
“Oh, come on, Logan. You’re on vacation. We only have a few more days,” Marissa scolds.
There is a funny lilt to her words, a challenge in her eye. I watch her carefully as she tosses a sly look to Arianna, like she’s tracking her reaction.
Shit.
Seems like someone is on to us. Schooling my face, I shrug as I look down at my phone.
“Alright, I can push it to tomorrow morning.”
“Yay!” Kelly says as Marissa smiles. “Come on! Let’s go,” she says as she yanks Marissa’s arm harshly, rushing upstairs like they are getting ready for the prom.
Tom sighs like he can’t wait for this night to be over already.
Same here.
“Wish you would have stuck to your guns. I don’t want to go to a fucking winery,” he grouches.
“I didn’t hear you speaking up?” I say with a lifted brow.
He shrugs his shoulders. “Happy wife, happy life, yeah?”
“Not sure, clearly I didn’t have a happy wife.” I laugh bitterly.
Tom frowns, nodding like he understands, before facing me a little more.
“She’s happy now. She’s so in love with you dude. She’s desperate for you to give her another chance and from where I’m sitting, you don’t seem to feel the same.”
My eyes move to Tyson and Arianna, not feeling like having this conversation at all, but especially with an audience.
“I’m just saying, if you don’t want her, let her go. If you do, put the girl out of her misery.”
If only it were that simple. He doesn’t know how messy things have gotten. How bad things will be when the truthcomes out, because it will, eventually. There is no way Arianna will go the rest of her life without seeing her family again, and there is no way I’m spending a single day without her by my side. So, something will have to give.
Arianna stands, moving through the living room and up the stairs. I know she’s going to her room, and I wait long enough so no one will think anything of it before I stand.
“Guess I’m gonna go get changed.”
“You wear whatever the fuck you want, I’m not changing,” Tom grunts.
Shaking my head, I meet Tyson’s gaze. He’s watching me carefully, a blank look on his face. Eventually, he turns his attention back to the TV and I head up the stairs.
I step up to Arianna’s room, slipping inside quickly to find her sitting on her bed reading a book. Closing the door behind me, I lock it before prowling towards her. She looks over the top of her book before focusing back on the pages. I reach over for the bookmark on her bedside table and save the page before snapping the book shut.
“Hey! I was reading th?—”
I end her argument as I press my mouth to hers. She resists me for a moment before I pull back, keeping her in place as I speak.
“I think Marissa suspects something. She looked at us in a way I didn’t like when she suggested the double date. When she turned down the idea of you and Tyson joining. Don’t be pissed at me because I’m trying to not raise alarms, Sparrow. You want to tell everyone down there that we are together, I’ll lead the way. If you don’t, though, then this is what I have to do.”
