“What do you mean?” Naomi whispers.
“I moved,” I say, wondering if that will give them enough to drop it. Of course, it wouldn’t, though.
“Where?” Cassi asks.
The professor begins introducing the class and expectations as I look to my best friends, quickly shaking my head as ifto say not here. They look disappointed but drop it as we focus our attention up front.
As soon as class is dismissed, though, their questions pick right back up.
“Where did you move? When did you move?” Cassi asks.
“We could have helped you!” Naomi adds.
“So, uhm, remember your birthday?” I ask Cassi.
She freezes for a moment before nodding softly.
“Well,” I continue. “I hooked up with someone.”
“We know, and then you went back the next week, right?” Naomi asks.
“Yes, exactly. Well, that someone turned out not to be just anyone. He was…Logan.”
“Logan?” Cassi frowns like she’s trying to place the name.
“Cunningham,” I add.
Understanding hits them both simultaneously before their jaws fall open.
“You fucked your stepdad?!” Cassi shrieks, earning a few less than savory looks from some of our peers.
I shoot Cassi an irritated look as we grab our bags, standing to our feet before rushing out of the class. As soon as we’re in the quad, they pepper me with nonstop questions. Then, the floodgates open. I tell them everything about our nights together, him showing up on the trip, me and Ty, me and Logan, my mom and seemingly everyone, before I finally finish.
“So…you moved in with him?” Naomi asks.
“Yeah, yesterday.”
“Are you crazy?” Cassi laughs, though her tone holds no judgment.
“I think so,” I say with an eye roll.
Naomi smiles, rubbing my arm softly.
“Does he treat you well?”
I nod.
“Then we’re happy for you,” Cassi says.
I’m surprised. Not that my friends are unsupportive or critical, but I expected a little judgment. A few strong opinions or words of caution. Instead, they seem all for the huge age gap and inappropriate natured relationship.
“Thanks,” I say suspiciously. “What ever happened with you two that night?”
“Hm?” Cassi asks.
“I know you both hooked up, we’ve all never shared details, though, which isn’t like us. Now you know why I didn’t share mine because, I mean, I wasn’t exactly proud. Your turn bitches, spill.”
Naomi gets a call as she looks down at her phone.
