“No, it was pure and white, but it held weaknesses.”
“Have you toured the basement room?" He asked, and his assistant shook his head. “Go down and then come back and tell me what you find.” He waited several minutes, and then his assistant returned to stand beside him; neither of them engaged in eye contact.
“There is a thin veil of magic in the air. It's unusual, and it is not pure or white." He stated his confusion was obvious. “I don’t know what it is or was.” The man turned then and looked directly at his assistant with a gaze that was cold as ice.
“Fae.” He stated. “There was a Dark Fae in our midst, and they used their magic to free the vampire.” The assistant’s eyes shot wide as he took in his teacher and the implications of this discovery.
“The vampire is hiding at the Hadden Coven, and the Fae who saved him will likely be there too." The assistant declared.
“It’s not the Fae that I want, it’s the wand, the most mysterious weapon in the paranormal world. Get me that wand.”
Mateo lay next to his bonded beloved, feeling like life had finally righted itself and his future was clear once again. Pascal would be with him, by his side till the end, and maybe even beyond. He wasn't sure what lay beyond, but hopefully they would find out together. All he knew was that Fate had given him an amazing man, whom he would be forever grateful for, and he would treasure this man like the gift that he was.
He ran his fingers through Pascal's hair, so black and beautiful in the way it swept across his brows. The Revere Coven assassin, the mixed blood that brought magic and mystery to the ranks, was seen as the deadliest of the Coven soldiers. The Revere Coven never appreciated what they had never utilized him as they should have, and now this gorgeous marvel of a man belonged to Mateo.
"I feel you staring at me, my darling." Pascal’s gravel tones ran across Mateo’s flesh like a sexy caress, and he couldn’t stop the soft moan that escaped. “Oh, you sound so needy, sweetheart." Pascal rolled to half on top of Mateo and looked down into his face with an expression that had Mateo hard in seconds.
“You make me so hot and so hard.” Mateo breathed the words into Pascal’s mouth as he took his lips and kissed him like his life depended upon it. Pascal moved to straddle Mateo's hips, spreading himself over Mateo's hard cock. He slipped inside easily, and the embrace was lovely, a warm, velvety hold that milked his throbbing cock.
Mateo held Pascal’s waist, and Pascal ran his hands seductively over Mateo's chest, easing and titillating the flesh, sending sparks of sensation prickling along his nerve endings. Pascal moved with ease and purpose, taking him deep and grinding just enough to keep him on edge. Mateo beganthrusting, unable to resist the urge for completion, and a soft smile graced Pascal's sexy lips.
“I’m in control this time." He whispered, and Mateo closed his eyes, intent on savoring every minute and every movement. Pascal rode him until Mateo thought he’d turn inside out with the need of this man. His body pleaded for more and for satisfaction as he brought him to the edge repeatedly. Finally, with his heart beating out of his chest and his breath coming in rapid pants, Pascal picked up speed and increased his grip. His channel was tight and hot and brought Mateo to a rapid climax.
He jerked and held on, feeling the streams burst and fill his beloved once again. Nothing in this life had ever felt as good as being inside his beloved, and it was an experience he would repeat often. Pascal's body was made for him just as he was made for Pascal. Fate's plan was always flawless. Mateo pulled him down and sank his teeth back into the little scar and drank deeply. He would never feed from another now that he had his beloved. Pascal was all he would ever need, just as he was Pascal's one and only.
He finished and licked the wound closed, and Pascal eased himself off and rolled to Mateo's side. Mateo pulled him close, wrapping his arms around Pascal. The need to have him close was an obsession, a beautiful, satisfying obsession. Their lives were just starting, and there were plans to be made.
"Will you come with me to Baltimore? Will you take the position of the Master’s Beloved and serve me and the people of our Coven?” Mateo made the formal request. In his heart, he knew that Pascal would honor him and his duty to the people of the Wentworth Coven, but he had to ask; it was part of the protocol. Besides, his beloved deserved the ritual and the respect of being asked.
"Wherever you are, I am there.” Pascal pledged and followed it with a kiss. “My place is by your side.”
"Thank you, my love. You will never regret it, I promise." The kiss that followed was tender and loving and held a vow of love, loyalty, and forever.
The man found his way into the Hadden Center past the talisman at the door and made his way to the coffee shop nearest the entrance. He needed to heal, observe, and get a lay of the land. The talisman was powerful, but his Master's magic was unlike any other, and that charm at the door hurt him, but did not stop him. The Hadden Center had many protections in place, but he had the ability to see their location and avoid interaction.
It was hard and painful; the spells and charms of protection were serious and more powerful than he was used to. His Master's power was greater, and he held that as a cloak as he made his way deeper into the complex. The vampire was easy to follow, and he assumed the Fae would be close by. Their tracers were more subtle and easy to miss, but if he got close, he would recognize them.
He covered himself completely with the glamour constructed from parts of dragon magic, that the Master combined with vampire trance imagery, and he appeared as air moving gently through the room. His Master was a genius, and he was teaching him everything he knew. He was an apprentice to the greatest Master of magic in the world.
It took him a while to get a lead on the vampire, but once he got the scent, it was not difficult to follow where he'd been through the lobby into the elevator and up to the twenty-second floor. From there, he moved through the hallway and to an apartment door. The vampire was inside, and he was not alone.
CHAPTER SIX
Pascal woke with his beloved in his arms, and it was the best morning of his life. After a leisurely shower, Pascal ordered breakfast for them both. It was steak and eggs with orange juice and coffee. He was pleased to see that his beloved's tastes were much like his own.
"The Master would like to meet with you today, Mateo. He’s trying to get a complete picture of the magic and men who held you. He’s going to ask to enter your memories. He wants to try and get ahead of whatever this is.” Pascal told him the truth.” Mateo listened thoughtfully as he finished his breakfast and Pascal poured him another cup of coffee.
“I know that he has had considerable trouble with magics and casters infiltrating his territory, and I will gladly answer any questions he has. But with that said, I will not allow him into my thoughts. I know he will probably say that he means me no harm and that only he will see within, but I cannot take that chance." Mateo held his cup with both hands and stared down into the black liquid.
"I understand, and whatever you choose, I will back you." Pascal made his support complete.
“I have been used and lied to, and my mind and body have been ravaged. I cannot risk letting anyone touch my mind in such a manner. I have a Coven to lead, and I must be seen as strong, independent, and competent.” He looked up at Pascal and reached for his hand.
“They have not seen me in many months, and most probably thought I was dead. It will take time for me to prove myself and for them to trust that I can handle the job and that I can provide what they need. If it got out that I allowed another Master to go searching through my brain, I would be finished." His expression was pleading with Pascal to please understand.
"I get it, Mateo, you don't have to convince me. Whatever you need to do, I am there for you, and don't ever doubt that." Pascal brought Mateo’s hand to his lips and kissed the back. “You are my beloved, and you are my Master. I will follow you anywhere." He stated, and Mateo smiled, relief filling those gorgeous gray eyes. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for this man.
"I will answer his questions to the best of my ability, but that is the limit to what I will allow." He said, and Pascal nodded, ready to provide whatever support he required.
