“I think he’s handsome and you should give him a chance,” Brynn said.

Kelsey didn’t look up. Ignoring Brynn and her ridiculous statement, she resigned herself to two sad facts:

She would have to find a new brunch spot after this fateful Sunday.

And she’d have to find new brunch babes as well.

With Alexander’s contacts able to see his transactions—assuming he hadn’t set his account to private—Kelsey needed to make the message a good one. Priceless. Perfect.

They were, after all, at war with one another and had been for some time.

Hmm.

She didn’t want to say anything sexual and risk sending him the wrong message.

“What should I say it’s for?” She looked up at the other girls.

“What?”

She flipped her phone toward them. “The Venmo payment. He’s not getting away with this.”

“Kelsey,” Brea chided.

Kelsey just raised her eyebrows and waited.

Nessa sighed. “Just put, like, an eggplant and a cherry.”

“No.” Kelsey shook her head. “First of all, that’s played the fuck out. Second of all, I’m not going to give that man any mixed signals.”

“Are they mixed, though?” Nessa asked, narrowing her eyes. “I think you want to introduce your cherry to his eggplant.”

“You’re on it.”

Nessa grinned. “I’m on to something?”

Kelsey looked at her pointedly. “No. My last nerve.”

“I’m on it?” Nessa laughed.

Kelsey nodded.

“Noted.”

“What about something like, hookers and blow?” Brea offered.

Kelsey considered that option, then shook her head. “Eh. Boring.”

“Pads and tampons?” Brynn offered.

Kelsey scrunched up her nose. “Too tame.”

Brea filled their glasses with the last of their last bottle of champagne; turns out youcanfind the bottom, if you have to work the next day. Maybe they needed to switch their Brunch Babes dates to Saturday brunches instead of Sundays, since Brea and Brynn always had to go into the office the next day—

“Butthole bleaching.”

As soon as the record stopped screeching and their brains caught up to what they’d just heard and, more importantly, who’d just said it, the three of them looked at Brynn, eyes wide.

Nessa barked out a laugh. “Brynn, oh my God.”
