“How many was that?”

“Sixteen or so. Aksalla has been very eager to get a viable pregnancy. They didn’t want him waking and being irritated.” Amber kept eating.

Rake snorted, and it cemented Cadence’s suspicion.

“Right, so let’s just get this out of the way. You are Raek Wlar, and that is Im-bar, your sister. You are Battle Harmony or the Lost Song.”

He sat back and chuckled. “Im-bar thought we had a week at least.”

“I follow patterns, and the name reverberated wrong.”

Amber smacked her forehead. “Right. I forgot. He used to do that when he was a kid.”

Raek smiled at Cadence. “So, you are feeling well?”

“Yes. My sister and I were very amused during the IUI. Your contribution was... organized.”

He grinned. “I am highly organized.”

Im-bar said, “OCD. He has OCD. He used it to compensate for feeling all the confusion in the world before he could fix it.”

Raek smiled. “When I got older, I just fixed things.”

She nodded. “Right. So, since you have woken, and that was the goal, should I find somewhere else to be?”

He frowned. Im-bar cleared her throat. “No. He would like you to stay here.”

“Oh.”

She smiled. “He asked for an heir because there had to be a mother. That was what he was after.”

“That is also why there was no interference from Khytten allowed. It was buying time.”

Im-bar chuckled. “Correct.”

Cadence looked down and had finished her meal. “I think I need to go for a walk.”

Raek finished his meal. “I will join you. We have some things to discuss.”

“We do?”

“We do. You are an untrained harmonic on a large landmass. We need to discuss it.”

She wrinkled her nose. “Now?”

“Now. I am still recovering from cold sleep, so we won’t be long.”

She nodded and got to her feet. She could hear her body humming. She walked past him, and he got to his feet behind her.

She glanced behind her and saw Im-bar with a smile on her face. Cadence straightened and walked with the father of her baby close behind her.

She left via the door to the kitchen and inhaled the night scents of the kitchen gardens.

Raek said, “Come this way.”

Cadence walked with him, and she blinked. “I didn’t know there was a path this way.”

He sighed softly. “It opened up for me.”
