This area is weird. We’re two-and-a-half hours to New York City, but it feels like an eternity away with the open land, dairy farms, and the smell of cowpie everywhere.

“What about him?” I say pointing out the guy in the black cowboy hat.

She laughs. “No.”

“No cowboys?”

“I didn’t say that, but that’s Micah, a very well-known player. He’s offered, I declined.”

“Is he related to Dan?” I ask and get a chuckle from her. “Okay, no Micah, what about...that guy?”

This time I point to a man in a suit. He’s decent looking, a little older, but that might not be a bad thing.

“That’s the mayor’s brother, whose wife I’m very good friends with.”

“Okay, not a match.”

Addison’s eyes meet mine and she smiles. “It’s fine. There’s no one here and I’ll have to go back to that awful app and endure more horrible dates.”

“I am?”

Addison rolls her eyes and takes a drink, trying to hide her smile. “Whatever.”

“Well, I know it’s not you who you were referring to.”

She places her glass on the bar. “You think I’m relatively attractive?”

“Relatively.”

I’m lying, she’s fucking gorgeous, but I won’t say that.

“And it’s a wonder your date stood you up.”

“Yes, well, I’m a wonder.”

I laugh as she shakes her head. “I’m serious. We’re kind of an obvious matchup. We practically live the same life, so maybe that’s why?”

“Well, Brynlee is certifiable and knows I don’t want a relationship. She wouldn’t do that to you.”

Addy tucks her blond hair behind her ear. “That’s nice of her then.”

I sigh, hating all of this. My date standing me up means that I can’t even fake this with the investors. I can tell them I went on a date, but what? If only this girl showed, I could have feigned interest and...
