“Yes, and you told me everything was great,” he reminds me.
“I did. They ran a bunch of bloodwork and tests to make sure my liver function was back to normal, which it is. Mostly everything came back great.”
“Mostly?”
“They found something in my bloodwork that was elevated, that normally isn’t.” Crew’s arms drop, but I keep hold of his lapels. “Calm, baby. Please, stay calm.”
His crystal blue eyes lock on mine. “What’s wrong, Brynlee?”
Okay, well, here it goes.
“I’m pregnant.” Crew doesn’t blink, it’s almost like a trance in a way. I move my head in front of his gaze. “Hello?”
“Pregnant?”
“I know we kind of talked about maybe having a baby at some point. It really isn’t the greatest timing with having the PR company going nuts.”
We’ve signed so many new clients thanks to my husband’s ridiculous contacts and the fact we signed a football team. Aarabelle is now running her own division dealing with social media crisis and has been absolutely amazing. Her team is signing more clients than we can handle, which is why we just hired two more publicists.
It’s a lot.
It’s amazing.
It’s not the best time to have a baby, but here we are.
His hands move to my stomach. “Pregnant?”
I nod. “Yes. I’m maybe six weeks.”
“How the hell didn’t you notice?”
“I’ve been kind of busy with the company, planning a wedding, getting Layla enrolled in her new school, and us traveling back and forth. I honestly didn’t register my period was late.”
Crew just shakes his head, his eyes full of amazement. “Are you okay? Feeling good? What about your liver? The doctor told us to wait.”
“Everything is fine. I’ll be closely monitored. Dr. Carr isn’t overly worried.”
He cups my face. “I didn’t know it was possible to love you any more than I already do. I didn’t know that . . . Bee, we’re going to have a baby.”
A tear slips down my cheek. “I know.”
“This makes my wedding gift of an office building in New York look lame.”
I laugh. “You bought me a building?”
“It was supposed to be a surprise.”
“I guess we both got surprises then.”
Crew brings his lips to mine in a soft kiss, then he scoops me up in his arms and starts to walk away from the barn. “Crew! What are you doing?”
“You, my gorgeous, wonderful, pregnant wife, are going to your bed, where you will stay until you give birth.”
I laugh, slapping his chest. “Put me down.”
“Prepare, my love, I’m going to be overprotective and overbearing.”
I wrap my arms around his neck a little tighter. “So it’ll be like normal?”
