He snorts. “Not even close.”
“Clearly since you’re carrying me away from our wedding. People came to see us and how are we going to explain that my neanderthal husband needed to put me to bed?”
He looks back at the barn. “They’ll survive and I don’t care what they think. I most definitely need to take you to bed—immediately.”
I roll my eyes and shake my head, grateful we thought ahead to have Layla stay at my brother’s, because I’m going to enjoy this wedding night.

BRYNLEE
~SEVEN MONTHS LATER~
“Brynlee! I swear to God you are the worst fucking patient that has ever lived!” Crew bellows as I’m sitting in my office with my phone to my ear.
I put my hand up, telling him to be quiet, and return to my call. “Killian, you need to calm down. We will handle it.”
Killian Thorn is our biggest client. When he calls, we answer. “I don’t know what to do, Brynn. This is blowing up. All because some woman made a claim on social media! There is press at my house, we had swarms of people outside the office. I need help. I need you to handle this.”
“I understand. I really do, I would be there, but I just had a baby. I’m going to get our top person out there. Where are you now?”
“Ember Falls.”
“Okay, send me an email with the address and I’ll have Aarabelle get in touch. Just don’t talk to anyone about this.”
Crew enters my office, sitting in the chair in the corner, holding our son against his chest. I can’t fight the smile on my face when I see him kiss the top of his head.
Jameson Crew Knight entered our world three days ago and I am under strict instructions to take it easy. I was in labor for thirty-three hours and it put a lot of strain on my body. I was literally minutes away from a c-section, but I was adamant I wanted to try it this way.
“This is a fucking nightmare, trust me I don’t want to talk to anyone.”
“We’ll take care of it. If I were you, I’d be ready to spend some time in Ember Falls where you’ve evaded the press.”
“That’s my plan. I’ll send that email now.”
I hang up and my husband just sits there, Jameson asleep on his chest and one brow raised. “You promised, Bee.”
He made me swear that I would listen to the doctors and rest, which I have done for the last two days. This was just . . . work. You’d think Crew, of all people, would understand. Although, he’s cut back a lot. Kimberly now is the CEO of Knight Food Distribution. He handed that over to her a year ago. She’s doing amazing things and he’s able to spend a lot less time traveling now.
“I know, I know, but he called, and I needed to step in.”
“You have Aarabelle,” he reminds me.
“Yes, and she’s going to be super happy that she needs to fly down there today to fix this.”
I get up from my chair, wincing, because giving birth is not exactly comfortable, and walk over to my boys.
“Your entire freaking family is coming today to bring Layla back and see the baby. Could you please go back to bed and spend at least a few hours with your feet up? We all know once they get here, there will be no rest.”
“Fine, but only if you both come with me,” I acquiesce.
Crew gets up, cradling Jameson with one arm and pulling me to his side. “Let’s go.”
We get back to our bedroom and climb in bed, he places the baby between us, and I lie here, staring at my son. “He’s so perfect.”
“He came from you, of course he is.”
I grin. “Layla asked if he could sleep in her room,” I tell him.
