“That would last one night.”

“That’s what I told her. She’s just excited to have a brother.” I also had to restrain myself from telling her how much brothers can suck.

Still, I hope they have the kind of love mine have with me. There’s nothing in this world my brothers wouldn’t do for me and vice versa.

“I honestly keep wondering how I got so lucky in life. I have two beautiful children and a wife I would lay down my life for.”

Crew laces our fingers together and we rest them on Jameson. “I ask myself the same thing. You really are lucky.”

We both laugh and Jameson fusses for a second. “Let’s nap while he does because once the Whitlocks get here, there will be none of that.”

I wish I could say I responded, but I’m pretty sure I was halfway asleep after the word nap.

“So, you marry our sister under duress, somehow convince her to marry you again, knock her up, and then make her go through hell for birth?” Rowan asks as he sits on the chair beside the baby, who is asleep in his stroller.

We’re back in Sugarloaf and having one of our very long, very loud family barbecues.

“Pretty much.”

He shrugs. “Sounds like the makings of a good marriage.”

I grin. Her brothers, while being insanely annoying, are also a very welcome addition to my life. Since Rowan no longer works directly for me, our relationship has really changed. I’ve helped him and Charlotte with some business investments and her company has really taken off thanks to the social media virality she’s had.

Rowan bought a failing farm a town over from Sugarloaf that has nothing to do with cows, and he’s been able to diversify and grow with Knight Food Distribution.

“And how is Maci doing?”

“Good. She’s crawling all over the place, driving Charlotte nuts, which in turn, means I suffer.”

“Please! You have never suffered a day in your life,” Asher says handing us both a beer. “However, you really will when she starts dating.”

“Says the man who is dating his daughter’s nanny.”

“Former nanny and married to,” he corrects. “One day that joke will get old.”

Rowan chuckles and looks to me. “Not until I’m dead.”

“That can be arranged,” Asher says with a smirk.

“You’ll be the one who has to deal with dating before he does,” I remind Asher. “Olivia is what? Thirteen?”

Rowan nods. “Yeah, that’s right. Think of what we were doing at thirteen.”

Asher’s face falls. “Olivia has no interest in boys.”

Just then my wife walks over with a tray of food. “What’s going on here and why does Asher look close to homicide?”

I smile. “Just reminding Asher that Olivia is at that dating age.”

Brynlee tilts her head. “Did she tell you about something?”

Asher’s eyes snap to his sister. “Tell me about what?”

Brynn shrugs. “Nothing.”
