Page 84 of Forgotten Desires

I could cry. God, this is amazing. I have the money to cover the transplant and I don’t have to do anything crazy to get the money. I wasn’t counting out putting up a subscription site for foot porn if that’s what I needed to do.

My chest is lighter, and I can’t stop smiling. “Thank you. Thank you so much, Mr. Bagwell.”

“Don’t thank me, Brynn. What you’re doing for another person is truly selfless. Here, just sign in these two places. The first page is accepting the grant and the second is allowing Guardian Angels to pay the hospital directly with any refunds being sent to us.”

I read over the documents carefully, the lawyer in me never goes away. Everything looks to be exactly as he said. The addendum paperwork has everything laid out. For some reason, I glance at the name on the top.

Brynlee Knight.

It’ll be the first time I sign my name as a married woman. As Crew Knight’s wife.

I don’t let myself think about it and sign quickly, only focusing on the fact that I can do this for my father. The tears I was trying to hold off stream down my face. They’re tears of relief and utter happiness. We both stand. “I need to call my father and husband.”

He extends his hand and I grasp it. “We will all be thinking of you and praying for a safe and successful surgery.”

“Thank you.”

I head out of there, sending Crew a text.

Me

I got the grant! There are some weird changes, but it’s all good!

Crew

Congrats, Bee. I’m so happy for you. I’ll be home around six. Let’s do dinner to celebrate.

Me

Sounds good. See you soon.

Next, I call my dad, letting him in on the good news. He cries—a lot. Everything is coming together, and my cheeks hurt from smiling so much.

My phone pings with a text.

Olivia

Look, you’re famous!

With that comes a photo of me and Crew laughing as we walked into the apartment last night. His arm is around my back and I’m looking into his eyes with a huge grin.

Me

Where did you see that?

Olivia

Online. There’s a whole section about Carson and his new wife—meaning you.

Me

I knew who you meant. Why are you reading that crap?

Olivia

Because! It’s gossip and now, Holly Carpenter wants to talk to me to ask about my uncle. She’s never cared about me before.
