Lawless had all but pushed Angela to the floor of the passenger side as the bullets started flying.

His blood was raging as the crazy noise increased in his skull.

Torn between protecting his woman and killing the cunts in the car speeding ahead. They’d shot out the back window. Grabbing his phone, he snapped several photos of the black Mercedes.

“What’s happening? Someone shot at us, didn’t they? That was actual bullets.” her voice shook with fear, and Lawless glanced down to see her ashen face. He wanted to chase and run them off the road before putting a knife between the eyes.

But he had Angela in the truck and wouldn’t risk her.

So he let them drive off.

Offering a hand, she reached up from the floor and clutched it, her fingers shaking. “I’m scared, Lawless.”

“It’s okay; I won’t let anything happen to you.”

“And you. Nothing will happen to you too.” She said, “Who was it? What did they want?”

Lawless was already connecting a call to the prez. “Rider, heading to the club, some walking dead just shot up my truck, with us in it.”

Through the speaker, Rider growled, “the fuck who?”

“At a guess, Ruiz’s men. It was a warning. He knows I’ve been poking around. Had a feeling I was followed a few times days ago, and when I hacked into street cams, the same Merc was behind me.”

“What? Why didn’t you tell me?” Angela snapped, trying to climb up onto the seat and his hand stalled on her shoulder, “stay down.”

“I warned you they were unpredictable,” Rider said. “I’ll call in the boys and start a lockdown until we know what the fuck happened.”

They hung up, and Lawless drove toward the club with his skull on fire to kill them all.

The moment they were inside the club entryway, Lawless let go of Angela’s hand to cup her face, checking if any of the glass pebbles caught her. “Are you okay?”

“I’d be better if I knew what was going on.”

He’d never felt this out of control and split down the middle before.

When shit needed doing, he could do it with no problem.

Nothing got in his way or deviated him from doing it.

But now, he was ripped from the inside to protect her, and the only person worthy of making sure nothing put a mark on Angela’s skin was him.

Lawless grunted and walked away, but she caught at his arm.

“Why didn’t you tell me you’d been followed this week?”

His worry came out as an angry noise, hissing through his teeth.

“You don’t get to know everything, Angela, not when it’s club business.”

“Club business...” she repeated softer, carefully. “I was in that truck with you, Lawless. I was the one picking glass out of my hair. But sure, club business.” Shaking off his arm, she walked into the belly of the clubhouse, her ass twitching in the little silver dress. Rider and Zara were already there, and Zara took hold of Angela, checking her over, Angela assuring the other woman she was okay.

Rider jutted his chin, and Lawless took his eyes off Angela and headed over to the prez.

“Everyone is coming in, not taking chances with those fools taking random potshots. Where the fuck were you when this happened?”

“Heading home,” he left the blowjob detailing out. It was no one’s business what his woman was doing with her mouth, least of all her stand-in father.

“Angie was dressed like that?”
