Smart monster.

“Well?” she asked, hands on her hips. “You’d hate it, wouldn’t you? Don’t spy on me, Lawless.”

Just a little.

Maybe a lot.

God, she was sick. Freaking sick in the head to not be bothered by this.

“Did you think so little of my abilities that you had to bribe and manipulate?”

“You knew I was a controlling bastard. This isn’t a surprise. I did what I had to do to take care of you.”

“Throwing Judge at me was taking care of me? Where would your plans be if I’d fallen for him?”

A tick moved through his jaw, and she saw she’d said the wrong thing.

“I would have made it go away.”

Her heart leaped out of her chest, full-blown love filled her.

She should be outraged. But all Angela felt was love for him and his crazy ways.

“You know that’s not normal, right?”

“What does normal have to do with anything?”

That was fair, she supposed.

“You might want to know the TA won’t be hassling you again. And he’ll have a broken nose the next time you see him.”

Now she was surprised.

“What did you do? Wait. You listened to my private conversation?”

“I did what had to be done, Angela. And now the maggot won’t so much as inhale in your direction.”

“I don’t believe this. He could get me kicked out.”

“Then I’ll break his fucking neck and make him regret every decision he’s ever made while he bleeds out from every orifice.”

Thankful she was dressed and ready to go, she collected her phone and purse from the other room. When she faced him again, now she was wearing a waist-length red leather jacket, she scowled. “Why are you smiling?”

“You’re pretending to storm off because you hate nothing I’ve done, angel. You like it, don’t you?”

Yes.

So much.

She huffed and rolled her eyes. “Keep thinking that, el creepo. I’ll see you when I see you, don’t wait up. Me and Josh have a lot of catching up to do.”

It was a taunt, a silly one, and she didn’t know it had worked until her back hit the door and Lawless was towering in her space.

No longer smiling.

“What? You want to put a tracking collar on me?”

“When you wear my collar, you’ll know about it.”
