As I walk in, Lightning jumps and turns around, hiding something behind him on the counter.
I cross my arms. “What are you up to now?”
He shakes his head. “Nothing.”
I arch a brow.
He sighs. “Fine, but you can’t tell anyone. Got it?”
“No promises,” I say as I walk over to him.
He steps away, revealing a container of mayonnaise and a container of yogurt. I glance at him.
“Uh, I thought Reed said no more food pranks.”
Lightning grins. “Well, actually, he said no more messing with the coffee. And this is just me swapping one white substance for another.”
I grab the yogurt container and notice Moose’s name scrawled on it. I set it down. “Lightning, you’re better than this. I mean, this might have been funny at first, but can’t you think of something better?”
His hand goes to his heart. “You wound me. I figure I need to start light with the new guy. You know, feel him out.”
I shake my head. “Did you hear about Rover and Fox’s back and forth with Cheeto? Now that was a good prank.” Rover and Fox also work at Morgan Thompson Security and their pranks are epic from what I’ve heard from Coff.
Lightning crosses his arms and stares at me.
“What?”
“Are you looking for a prank partner? Do you have some ideas?”
Moose walks into the room. “Hey, what are you doing with my yogurt?”
“You’re welcome,” I say. “I saved it.”
Lightning’s brow shoots up. “Throwing me under the bus?”
I point to the items next to him. “No need. You were caught with the evidence.”
Moose grabs his yogurt. “Not cool, man.” He storms away.
“And to answer your question, no, I want nothing to do with this prank stuff. After Thunder got me back for the last one, I’m done.” I spin around.
Ozzie is leaning in the doorway, grinning at me. He’s sexy as hell, and I want to attack him, but it’s work, so I can’t. But I take in every inch of him with my eyes from his legs all the way up. By the time our eyes meet, his grin is gone, replaced by heat.
We walk silently to his office, and he shuts the door. Then he stalks up to me.
“You’re done with pranks, huh?” His hand brushes against my neck as he moves my hair behind my shoulder.
I want more of his touch. “Maybe now he won’t be expecting it.”
“I love that I can kiss you almost any time I want now.” He leans down and kisses my jaw.
I wrap my arms around his neck. “Well, not anytime. I wouldn’t recommend doing it in a meeting. Or in front of Durango.”
He chuckles. “Durango will eventually get used to it. Besides, he’s preoccupied right now.” He kisses down my neck.
“You keep teasing me like this then you better be ready to give it up after work.”
His head tips back as he laughs. “I love how direct you are. But speaking of after work, I want to take you out to a nice dinner in the city.”
