My sister laughs. “Keep me updated.”

A grin sprouts on my face. “Will do.”

“Come on,” she says, opening the door. “If Mom says anything, I’ll distract her.”

I scoff. “We’re going to need a tornado to distract her.”

I’m in control

Redfield has become my home away from home.

Even though I miss my dad and home-cooked meals, this group of people has become my second little family. I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. And now that Rosie is dating and has moved in with Grayson, I guess he’s now part of our little posse.

Gabi, however, doesn’t really seem to appreciate that little fact, given how she’s glaring at him. “You’ve been hogging her.”

“I haven’t hogged her,” Grayson replies.

Gabi raises her eyebrows. “I know you’re like in love, and I’m happy for you, but do you really need to be here?”

“In my house?”

“Yes.”

Grayson laughs and holds his hands up. “I thought we were cool. I gave you candy.”

“It ended,” she says with a shrug. It’s entertaining as shit watching Gabi mess with Grayson.

He snorts. “I’ll get you some more.”

“You’ve been blackmailing him?” Madi asks her.

Gabriella rolls her eyes. “He had to earn my approval somehow.”

“How about because I love your best friend?” Grayson offers.

Rosie turns her head, smiling at him, and Gabi’s eyes soften, as we all do when we look at them. They’re so pure, so in love, it’s adorable. “Fine,” Gabi says with a sigh. “You’re off the hook.”

Rosie snickers. “As much as I love watching you threaten my boyfriend, we all know you’re a big softie.”

“Boyfriend,” Grayson repeats, looking all lovesick when he looks at her. I swear he has hearts in his eyes. “Love that word.”

I don’t even know why I do it, but instinctively, I glance at Aiden who’s sitting on the end of the couch, to find him already looking at me. The word boyfriend rings through my mind when those blue eyes twinkle; he smirks when I hold eye contact.

He stands up and my eyes follow his movements, watching as he lifts himself off the couch and announces, “I’m going to get some snacks.”

“Do you have any gummy worms?” Gabi asks, raising her eyebrows at him.

He shrugs. “We might do.”

Gabi grins. “I want them.”

He laughs. “I’ll see what I can do.”

“They’re gross,” Madi replies. “How can you like them?”

“At least they’re not those disgusting vegan candies Leila likes.”
