His smirk widens. “We’re in my house, Leila.”
I roll my eyes. “You know what I mean.”
“Then eat.” He shakes the package in front of me again. I glance back at him, but the way he looks at me makes me sigh, grab a few out of the package and drop them into my mouth.
They’re so good. I can’t remember the last time I had them, or any candy, for that matter. Every word my mother spoke to me this past weekend erases from my mind when Aiden smiles when I grab a couple more. He follows suit, grabbing a handful from the package and munching away. For like two seconds before his face contorts, and he stops chewing. “What the fuck is this?” he asks, his mouth full of the sour candy.
“You don’t like them?”
He grabs a napkin, spitting into it. “This is the worst thing I’ve ever put in my mouth.” He cringes, shaking his head and spitting out the remainder of the candy.
“You’re so dramatic, they’re not that bad.”
“Holy shit,” Aiden wheezes, unscrewing a water bottle and downing it. “Are you trying to kill me?”
I laugh while his face turns red, glaring at me. “You’ll be fine.”
He shakes his head. “If I don’t make it to practice tomorrow, it’s your fault.”
“You ready for the game next week?” Grayson asks him.
He nods. “Of course,” he glances at me, “If Leila doesn’t kill me first. We’ll get that win.”
“You’re up against UCLA,” I point out. “They’re good.”
“They are?” Rosie asks, not knowing anything about basketball. I always tried to drag her with me to the games in high school, but the girl was never interested.
“Yeah,” Aiden replies. “But I’m not worried.”
I scoff. “Cocky as always.”
I steal a furtive glance at him, his gaze meeting mine, and he smirks, his tongue glides over his lips as he stares down at me. I have to remind myself I’m in a room full of people—my friends—before I do something stupid like kiss him. But… I really want to kiss him.
“They have a great defense,” he replies, with a suggestive smirk when his eyes drop to my lips. “But they can’t shoot for shit.” His eyes fall on mine once again and he smiles. “I’ve got it handled.”
“You can take them,” Grayson tells him, his voice cracking through me and Aiden like an ice bucket drenching us. “You’re one of the best players I have seen.”
Yeah, he is, and Aiden knows it too, which is why I say, “Don’t feed his ego.”
I can feel Aiden’s eyes on me from my side and Grayson laughs, shaking his head. “Too late for that.”
My head snaps to the man sitting beside me, watching as he grabs the package of the ‘toxic waste’ as he puts it, and shakes it in front of me. I shake my head and he narrows his eyes. If he thinks he can tell me what to do, then I can play with him too.
I grab one of the candies from the bag, open my mouth, and place it on my tongue. His eyes widen as he watches me wrap my lips around the blue candy, sucking half of it into my mouth. I know I’ve affected him when I hear a breathy rasp come from his lips, which spurs me on, looking up into his eyes when I pull it out of my mouth, only to swirl my tongue around it.
“Oh fuck,” he whispers, the bag dropping onto his lap, his chest rising the harder he breathes. I grin around the candy, knowing I have him right where I want him.
“Leila.”
I pull the candy out of my mouth, my eyes widening as my head snaps to my right where Gabi’s calling my name. “Hmm?”
I hear the giant beside me snicker, running a hand down his face to cover his laugh, and I try not to look back at him. “How was the photo shoot?” Gabi asks.
“It went well,” I tell her.
She gives me a smile. She knows how nervous I was before leaving for New York, but once I got there and was surrounded by supportive people, it went better than I imagined. Now the hard part is going to be when it releases. I’m trying not to think of it too much, but it’s hard when it runs through my mind constantly. “I’m going to buy a hundred copies,” Gabi tells me.
“That’s a bit excessive,” I say, laughing. “I’m sure one will do.”
