Between the gun in her hand and the bullet holes in the dead men, no one tries to stop us.

“Mac.”

I look up as my mother tosses me the keys, barely managing to snag them out of midair.

“You drive. I’ll shoot.”

“Deal.”

I climb in and get us the hell out of there—forever.

We pass three black SUVs on the way to the alpha house. The first two don’t react to the sight of us, but the third hits the brakes hard. I watch in the rearview as it spins in a reckless U-turn before racing toward us again.

“We have company,” I say.

“I see it.”

My heart pounds. Not at the tail we’re trying to outrun but at what could have happened to the others. If Jadick knows we’re coming—

I don’t let myself think about it now.

I take corners on squealing tires, weaving deftly in and out of traffic until the vehicle following us is forced to fall back.

Finally, I turn onto the road for the alpha house and give it gas.

The circular drive is punctuated by the house, and for a moment, I think maybe Marilyn was wrong. Levi stands on the steps of the house with Jadick only a few yards away. They’re alone, facing off like two alphas about to fight for the title. Hope soars. Maybe Marilyn was just crazy after all. But then I slam to a stop and see them.

The Jades.

On the roof. Bound and shoved to their knees. Behind them, guards await the order to push them to their deaths. And I realize this is how he executed Jim in the video.

This is what he plans to do to all of them.

No wonder they never came when Levi called.

Jadick already has them.

Marilyn was right.

He’s already won.

CHAPTER21

Iscan the yard, but Tripp and my father are nowhere in sight. Neither is Nely. The van is parked in the grass several yards away, but the door hangs open, revealing an empty interior.

“Mackenzie, so good of you to join us,” Jadick says. “And Vicki, perfect timing. The guests of honor are here. That means the party can finally begin.”

“Let them go.” My voice is flat, but I don’t move from the Jeep. My thoughts race, trying to form a plan. Anything to distract him—

“If that’s what you want.” Jadick shrugs and looks up at the row of prisoners and guards. “Send one down—”

“Wait!” I leap out of the truck, rushing forward. “No. that’s not what I meant.”

Levi grabs me, stopping me before I can get closer to the asshole orchestrating all this.

“Calm down,” he says, his voice low in my ear. “It’s handled.”

I stiffen at that. Tripp. My father. Nely. They’re on it. They must be.
