He flicks a glance at the guards behind me but doesn’t look nearly as worried as I’d hoped. “Your pack can’t be happy about you being married to a member of another pack. I doubt they’d fight to protect him.”
Fear stabs deep, sharp, and painful. My mind races with images of Grey—injured, captured, killed. My wolf strains to act, to defend and protect. “Touch Grey, and I’ll rip you apart myself.”
He chuckles softly, eyes glittering with cruel amusement. “Such loyalty. Such foolishness.”
My wolf snarls, pushing to the surface, urging violence. I fist my hands, fighting for control. If I shift now, I’ll likely killhim where he stands. But there’s no telling who else I’ll go after once my wolf takes me over. “You underestimate me.”
“And you underestimate the enemy you’ve just made,” Vincenzo murmurs coldly. “You’re making a mistake.”
“I don’t think so,” I snap back, heart racing, adrenaline flooding my veins.
“Very well.” Vincenzo inclines his head mockingly. “Have it your way. But when the walls come crashing down, remember this conversation. Remember your choice.”
He turns smoothly, heading for the door. Pausing, he glances back, eyes chillingly calm. “Tell Grey we’ll see each other very soon.”
The door shuts behind him with a quiet finality, leaving me standing in trembling silence. I let out a shaky breath, my legs finally giving out as I sink back into the chair, heart thundering.
I know I’ve just declared war by refusing his demands.
Vincenzo will retaliate. He’ll target Grey, Mia, Dutch, Crow, Razor—all of them just to hurt me and make me give in. I squeeze my eyes shut against the panic clawing at my throat. But beneath the fear, there’s determination.
I won’t let him hurt the people I love.
If I have to lose myself to my wolf forever, it will be worth it.

GREY
The second I pull into the driveway, I know I’m too late.
My father’s striding out the front doors like he owns the place, dressed like a fucking politician and smiling like a snake who just swallowed the mouse. He’s buttoning his suit jacket slowly, like he has all the time in the goddamn world, and when he sees me leap out of the passenger seat of Crow’s car, his grin sharpens.
“The knight in shining armor here at last,” he calls across the gravel, tone slick with malice. “Too fucking late. Meeting’s over. You missed all the fun.”
I stop cold, realizing I don’t see a single member of my pack. Or Lexi.
My vision tunnels.
The beast inside me roars.
If he hurt Lexi, I’d know. I’d feel it. Still… I need to know she’s okay. To see her with my own eyes.
A figure moves in the door behind him.
Lexi stops short at the sight of me facing off with myfather. But I don’t care that she looks stricken with fear. She’s unharmed from what I can tell. That’s what matters.
“Did he touch you?” I demand.
“No,” she says, and I nearly sag at the relief in that single word.
“Not yet,” my father adds, and I snarl, my skin hot with the effort of holding my human form.
Whatever darkness that’s been gathering inside me is threatening to unleash itself here and now. I’ve never felt so unbound to my wolf before.
“Security, hold your positions,” Lexi commands sharply, not even flinching as half a dozen of her guards pour out of the house behind her and surround us all. Elena comes to stand in the doorway, guarding Lexi’s back.
Seeing her pack surround her helps ease the raging inside me just a little, and for a moment, I think I can let him walk out of here.
