“Did you lose an item of clothing?” I taunt, moving my hand down lower.

“Figured I’d help you out…”

I smile, bringing my lips over her ear as my finger slowly slides inside her, feeling how wet and smooth she is. “Goddamn, woman. You’ve been waiting for me?”

“Would it be cringy to say I’ve been waiting for the last three years?” She finally lifts her eyes and glances over her shoulder.

“Yes, but I’d love it just the same.” I slant my mouth over hers and lose myself for a moment. “So about that date. What do you say?”

Sophie’s breathing rapidly against me as I wait for her response. “I suppose I could squeeze you into my schedule.”

“Oh, well thank you,” I quip. “But I only take girlfriends on dates, so…”

“Really?” Her eyes widen as she bites down on her lower lip. I sink a second finger inside her, and she gasps. “You want to have this conversation right now?” Her head falls back against my shoulder as I increase my pace, rocking in and out of her tight pussy.

“I think I do,” I tell her matter-of-factly. “Unless you’d rather I’d introduce you in the same category as Liam? Even though you’re a much hotter roommate.”

“So what’re you saying? You want to make itofficial?”

I chuckle at her condescending tone, sinking deeper inside her as I bring the pad of my thumb to her clit and rub circles. “I’m saying, I want you to bemine, Sophie. I know we’re taking things slow, but you’ve been the game changer in my life longer than I want to admit. I might’ve taken a long ass time to finallyget here, but fuck, baby. I don’t want to let you go now. I want you all to myself and want the fucking world to know it.”

Sophie’s pants while I bring her closer to the edge. As she bites down on her lip, I listen to her uneven breaths as she rides out her climax. Her lips part, eyes squeeze tight, and she moans through the pleasure. After she’s come down from her high, Sophie turns toward me, and I slide my fingers between my lips.

“Still so goddamn sweet.”

Sophie plants her palms against my cheek and brings our mouths together for a searing kiss. When she pulls back, she stares at me. “You’re kind of a softy under all those layers of concrete.”

“I amnotconcrete,” I defend. “Wait, I’m not a softy either.”

She chuckles. “Yes. I’ll go on a date with you.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

SOPHIE

Seeingthis side of Mason is something I never thought would happen. I’ve hoped, dreamed, and fantasized about it, but I never thought it’d become a reality. From the moment he kissed me last weekend after confessing his demons about his past, I’ve somehow managed to fall even harder for Mason Holt.

When he asked me out on a date and implied he only takes his girlfriends out, I thought I was going to pass out. I might be in my mid-twenties, but he made my heart flutter like a fourteen-year-old girl at a boy band concert.

“So how was your baby appointment?” I ask Lennon once we find seats at Panera. She was dying for their broccoli cheese soup, and I only had a half day of rehearsals. Unfortunately, Maddie had classes.

“It was awesome!” She beams, putting some roll pieces in front of Allie in her highchair. “Weighed and measured me, all the usual checkup stuff, but we’ll go back in a couple of weeks to get an ultrasound and the official estimated due date.”

“Oh yay! Any intuition on what you think the gender is?” I ask before taking a bite of my sandwich.

“I’m leaning toward a boy because this pregnancy has felt so different from my first, but they say each time can be different no matter what the gender. So honestly, I don’t know! I’ll be happy either way.”

“I know you will be.” I smile, looking at Allie who’s munching on some bread. “Are you excited to become a big sissy?” I ask Allie, and she furrows her brows at me. “Guess not.”

We both laugh.

“So how did things go after we left the dinner party last weekend?” she asks. We haven’t been able to catch up since then, and I haven’t shared the latest news.

“Well…” I linger, swallowing down my food. “It got a little awkward with Caleb and the guys, but once he was gone, Mason took me by surprise and opened up to me about his past.”

“What, really?” She arches a brow, stuffing more soup into her mouth.

I smile at the memory. “Yeah, it was pretty sweet how he trusted me enough to share. I was happy he did. It brought a lot of light to the table on why he avoided me.”
